Journeying in Hope and Love: Building a Culture of Accompaniment
The Road to Emmaus
As they approached the village to which they were going,
he gave the impression that he was going on farther.
But they urged him, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.”
So he went in to stay with them.
And it happened that, while he was with them at table,
he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.
With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him,
but he vanished from their sight.
Then they said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning [within us]
while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?”
Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way
and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.
~ Luke 24:28-32, 35
Dear St. Clare School Families,
Congratulations on starting the school year safely and joyfully! The students did a wonderful job by cooperating with their teachers and with one another as we came back to school in full force. Students and teachers spent the first week, Silver Box Week, learning about each other, learning about how to move around the classroom and campus and how to treat each other with respect.
I’m grateful for your patience as we made tweaks in our drop off and pick up procedures. I continue to ask for your help in driving safely around campus, specifically by refraining from making a U-Turn in the middle of the street when students are present. By Friday, it looks like things were much improved.
The week ahead is an exciting one with academics, co-curriculars and our first school mass. There are some very important events that will impact our campus this week, particularly the Funeral Mass for Ofc. Mel Ubarre, dad to Kai in 6th and Cruz in 4th. We are anticipating attendance upwards of 300 along with San Jose Police escorts. Our 4th and 6th grade classmates will make their presence known on Washington Avenue by waving American flags and holding a sign as the family enters campus.
Middle school teachers and Student Council members are organizing safe and fun activities at recess in the Hall while we have mourners on campus to be respectful of the solemn service in the outdoor church.
ATTENDANCE AND LUNCH
Please continue to report absences by calling the attendance line 408-246-6797 or emailing stclare-attendance@dsj.org AND all your child’s classroom teachers by 8:45 A.M. We appreciate the notice.
Choice Lunch begins this week. If you did not order lunch for tomorrow, please be sure to send your students to school with lunch. Dismissal this week is at 3 P.M., except for our usual Minimum Day on Wednesday when dismissal is at 12:30 P.M.
ATTIRE THIS WEEK
Thank you to Mrs. Kogura for sending along the P.E. days for each grade. Students wear P.E. Uniforms on P.E. days, Free Dress on Wednesday: the last Wednesday of August, Formal Uniform on Friday for Weekly Mass. For those who have P.E. this Wednesday, students may wear non-uniform clothes that are appropriate for P.E. For those who have P.E. this Friday, students wear formal uniform and change into P.E. short if P.E. is after lunch or wear P.E. shorts and change into pants or skirts. As P.E. is usually less than 45 minutes long and not too strenuous, the formal uniform, with athletic shoes (and short under skirts) are adequate to perform tasks during P.E. class.
WEEKLY MASS | Fridays at 10:45 A.M.
Grades 3-8 will be attending weekly mass in person every Friday beginning this week at 10:45 A.M. Please remember that formal uniform for students in these grades is expected. Prepare students to attend mass by visiting the USCCB Daily Readings page.
For those who will not be attending mass in person (TK-2), the recording of the 8 A.M. daily mass will be viewed during this period (10:45-11:15): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHrKFEZntKla_WaqPSEN8zQ/videos
On Holy Days of Obligation, Grades TK-2 will be invited to attend in person.

2021-22 School Calendar
Below, you will find the Calendar Grid for the school year. Some find this difficult to navigate, so I’ve created the Calendar Highlights document which I hope will make it a bit easier for you to consume.
Some changes since the end of the school year: we added September 20th as a NO SCHOOL DAY and our School Year will end a day earlier. The original calendar had us attending 183 days of school, knowing that we had three days over the required 180 days. We are keeping the 181 days in the event we have to close for an emergency due to poor air quality.
Other options to view the calendar include a Google calendar synched to ParentSquare, or subscribing to the St. Clare School Public Calendar below:
