Principal Message
Hi BRMS Families,
It has been a great start to 2023. The last few months we have been super busy with UIL, Science Fair, BETA and everything else. The students have handled it so well and I appreciate all of their hard work.
This month, our focus revolves around the theme of kindness. We'll revisit the valuable small lessons on kindness taught last November. Within our CKH families, we'll engage in conversations about extending kindness not only to others but also to ourselves, emphasizing positive self-talk. How do we experience the impact of receiving positive affirmations from others? What emotions arise when we hear such affirmations? It's essential to recognize the importance of being kind to ourselves alongside showing kindness to others. Moreover, students will be guided on transforming negative self-talk into empowering, positive dialogue.
We have Field Testing on Wednesday, February 7. Here are a few reminders for testing day.
Get a good night's sleep: Ensure you get plenty of rest the night before the test to feel alert and focused during the exam.
Eat a nutritious breakfast: Fuel your body and mind with a healthy breakfast to sustain your energy levels throughout the test.
Arrive on time: Aim to arrive at the testing location early to avoid feeling rushed and to settle in comfortably before the test begins.
Bring required materials: Remember to bring your charged device to class.
Stay positive: Approach the test with a positive mindset and confidence in your abilities. Believe in yourself and stay calm throughout the exam.
Remember, we want students to do their best and stay confident. Thank you for all of your support. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Angel Perez
Counselor’s Corner
Where did the first month of 2024 go?! This past month I visited with current 6th and 7th graders to discuss courses for next year. Course selection papers were sent home the week of January 22 and were due back January 31. If your student was absent, they can pick up a packet from the office. I still have a few students who have not returned the forms. Please make sure that those get turned in soon. Mrs. Ingersol, the high school counselor, will be coming February 5 and 6 to visit with our 8th graders about high school schedules.
February 17 is Random Acts of Kindness Day. To celebrate we will have a week of dress up days to help show kindness at school to our teachers, staff and fellow students.
Nurses Notes
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Dating abuse is a pattern
of coercive, physically violent, intimidating, or manipulative behaviors
used to exert power and control over a partner. While we define dating
violence as a pattern, that doesn’t mean the first instance of abuse isn’t
also dating violence; we simply recognize that dating violence tends to
involve a series of abusive behaviors over a course of time.
It can be difficult to tell the difference between a healthy, unhealthy and
abusive relationship. While there are many warning signs of abuse, here are
ten of the most common to look for:
Checking your cell phone or email without permission
Constant put-downs
Extreme jealousy or insecurity
Explosive temper
Isolating you from family or friends
Making false accusations.
Mood swings
Physically hurting you in any way
Possessiveness.
Telling you what to do.
It's important to remember that no two relationships are the same and these
behaviors occur across what we call the "Relationship Spectrum." If you or
someone you know sees the warning signs in their relationship, help is
available.
