Starting on Monday, students will be taking the spring MAP assessments. There is no prep required for students other than to come to school on time, well rested and having had a good breakfast. MAP assessments are an important tool for teachers and admin to identify gaps as well as ensure that students are properly leveled in class.

Please make every effort to get your student to school on time on testing days to avoid any unnecessary stress.

After a few year hiatus due to Covid, we have finally been able to resume field trips. This week, our 7th and 8th grade students took a trip to Mercedes Benz Stadium. If you have been to a game or concert there then you already know that it is a state of the art facility. Our students got a "behind the scenes" tour of the stadium learning about the technology and engineering used to design the stadium as well as the environmental friendly programs they use on a day to day basis. Activities like this are a great way for students to see how many ways innovative thinking can be applied.

Over the past few weeks students have been challenged by their innovation teachers to build a pencil tower. They have discussed and studied the ideas behind building skyscrapers and were set to task building a tower with just 100 pencils and a roll of masking tape. Was it mess? Yes, it was. Did they have fun? Yes, they did. Did they impress us? Absolutely. A few towers were too tall to be housed in their classrooms and were moved to Innovation Hall! Check out some of these designs!

The second annual Innovation Showcase is scheduled for Friday, April 21. Mark your calendars for this not-to-be-missed event! The innovation team is busy planning for our students to show off the work they have been doing this year. Visitors are invited to visit by between 9-11am.

Yesterday was Student Council work day. Our student council members came to school ready to work. Wearing matching tie-dyed shirts they took to campus to clean up trash, sort lost and found, help deliver lunch, return found items and then they worked on defining what it means to be a FAST student. Thanks to Ms. Abramson and Ms. Rahman for leading the way and teaching these students how to get things done.

Please encourage your students to check the lost and found for any items they are missing. Our racks are full of jackets, hoodies, and sweaters. Items not claimed will be donated.

In an effort to streamline communications and ensure attendance records are being updated timely, we have created a new email for all attendance related correspondence. Going forward, please use attendance@fastk8.org for attendance related emails. If your student is going to be absent, you may email their homeroom teacher as well.

Please remember these policies which apply all the time:

• Parents must check in at the front office before going to Student Hall for any reason

• All volunteers on campus must have completed the Volunteer Registration

• Student Hall opens at 7:05am. Neither students nor parents are permitted in the building prior to that time

• Students should only be dropped off at designated carpool areas beginning at 7:05 am (i.e. in front of Student Hall or in the FAST Pass area)

• Students arriving after 8am must be signed in by a parent or guardian at the kiosk in the front office (students may not sign themselves in)

• Classroom visits for any reason should be cleared with the teacher in advance

• Students who do not attend FAST are not permitted to be on campus during school hours unless they are here for an event and are accompanied by their parent
• Early dismissal ends at 2:40pm. This is the latest time you may sign students out early.

We must all do our part to ensure that student safety is the top priority.

The Innovation Team is asking families to collect empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls to be used in the upcoming Innovation Showcase.

Donations can be placed in the gray PTO Collection Bin located outside the front office.
