Rock Ridge CAST takes flight at Dulles Airport!
In September, CAST RRH was offered a tour of the General Dynamics Flight Operations at Dulles Airport. Students were given an opportunity to sit in a flight simulator, check out the Gulfstream G-8 Fleet, and talk with employees representing varied roles in the day to day flight operations. It was an exciting day to explore what a career in aviation could look like!
Kicking Off The Year At A New CAST Location
CAST students at Academies of Loudoun are excited for a year of opportunities. Students are receiving instruction focused on workplace readiness and independent living. They are participating in hands on experiences to enhance their instruction in a variety of internship locations throughout the building. Students are also spending time exploring their community and engaging in activities to prepare for their futures.

Loudoun County High School Takes A Bite Out of Hunger!
Students gained valuable workplace readiness skills alongside of National Honor Society members while participating and organizing a food drive for Tree of Life Food Pantry in Leesburg. Students collected, labeled, sorted, and packed over 2,800 pounds of food (yes, you read that number right)! This was a collaborative effort that spanned over two weeks of collections for Tree of Life. Over many class periods, students checked expiration dates, sorted food into specific categories, and packed them into liftable boxes to haul off to the food pantry.
CAST Explores Independent Living Opportunities
The Cascades CAST program visited Our Stomping Ground in Herndon. The mission of Our Stomping Ground is to build inclusive communities and strengthen neighborhoods through diverse programming, sustainable, affordable housing, and social spaces for people of all abilities. Students met with a resident to inquire about their experiences with independent living at the apartment complex. They were also able to tour two apartments and see what activities and amenities were available to residents.
