Senior Meetings
The counselors have started meeting with seniors to talk to them about their post-graduation plans. FAFSA Night for Parents and Students: February 6th 5:30-6:30 pm @ CHS Media Center
In case you haven't heard, the government has completely refurbished the FAFSA. Even if you have completed the FAFSA in the past, you may have questions with the new one. If your student is a senior and you have never heard of the FAFSA, or would like more information, please join our event, hosted by U of M - Flint. Get questions answered and possibly get your FAFSA completed. This will be a presentation and work time for parents and students, so bring tax information and ensure you have your FSA ID in advance. There will be door prizes as well as food trucks available at this event. More information will soon be posted to the CHS Facebook regarding these incentives to students. The FSA ID is for anyone who has never completed a FAFSA for themselves or for a child. Otherwise, you already have one. To get your FSA ID, follow this link.

Traver Talk
In wrapping up the end of the semester I wanted to review classroom policies and expectations with all students and parents.
Policy Reminders
- Phone Use: The use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited during class time. Students are allowed to use their phones during passing periods or lunchtime. In the event that a student is found using their phone during class, they will be asked to turn in their phone to the teacher for the remainder of the day (and the next school day if it is after lunch). Progressive discipline is followed and if students continue to have phone referrals detentions or longer phone restrictions may be put in place.
- Tardiness: Students who accumulate tardies will be issued detentions. Please help to talk about the importance of timeliness to your student.
- Classroom Behavior: In the winter months we in education generally see an uptick in student behavior including disrespect, insubordination and disruptions. Please talk with your student about their behavior in class to meet expectations.
- Possession and Use: Students who are found to be in possession of paraphernalia will be issued out of school suspensions in coordination with the CHS Handbook. Please view this flyer with more information to parents about vape use.
Parental Support
I kindly urge parents to assist us in communicating the importance of healthy phone use, timeliness, and behavior to their students. Setting clear boundaries and expectations will help us to work together to contribute to a positive learning environment within the school. We greatly appreciate your cooperation and support in reinforcing these policies and promoting a conducive learning atmosphere for all students.

Principal's Points
Finish STRONG!
As the end of the high school semester approaches, it's essential for students to focus on key areas to finish strong and prepare for the next semester. The following list are checklist items for all students to shrink their focus and implement positive habits that will help them show progress. Creating structure in study habits will provide a schedule that students need. Here are some final focus points:
Consistent Attendance
- Attendance is the #1 Employability Skill that is taught at school.
- Be on time, Be present, Be engaged.
- Attendance is directly linked with student success. If the students miss one day, they fall two days behind in content understanding. That can manifest into a huge problem, very fast, so if a day is missed, make it a priority to make up missing work as soon as possible.
Review and Organize Notes.
- Go through class notes and organize them by subject.
- Each student should use their class reviews to prepare properly for exams.
- Create summaries or outlines for each topic to reinforce understanding.
Complete Assignments and Projects:
Prioritize completing any outstanding assignments or projects.
Check with teachers if there are any missing assignments that can still be submitted.
Prepare for Exams:
Create a study schedule to review for exams.
Focus on understanding key concepts and practicing with past exams or sample questions.
Ask for Help:
Raise your hand and ask questions about confusing topics from teachers or classmates.
Attend review sessions or extra help sessions offered by teachers. After-school tutoring is available M-Th each week.
Time Management:
Plan study sessions with breaks to avoid anxiety.
Use a planner or calendar to manage deadlines and exam/test dates.
Self-Care:
Ensure proper sleep and nutrition to support overall well-being.
Take breaks to relax and destress, especially during intense study periods.
Reflect on Goals:
Reflect on academic goals set at the beginning of the semester.
Identify achievements and areas for improvement.
Prepare for the Next Semester:
Review course offerings and plan for the next semester.
Consider seeking advice from counselors or teachers regarding course selection.
Stay Informed:
Be aware of any important announcements or changes in schedules.
Check in with teachers about exam formats or any special requirements.
Reduce Distraction:
Be responsible with phone use during the school day.
Use class time appropriately.
Allow teachers to teach and students to learn.
Remember that effective time management, consistent effort, and a positive mindset can contribute significantly to a successful end-of-semester experience. Go Clio! Join the Mustang Charge! #THEPLACETOBE!!
