The wonderful and warm welcome back I have received from students, staff and parents has been amazing!
I was the school counselor at Axson from 2012-2015. I left Axson during the 15-16 school year to work as a district specialist in school counseling. Last spring my husband retired and Mrs. Bryson had a baby! I asked Mrs. Bryson if she would be interested in sharing the school counseling job at Axson so that she could have more time with her growing family and I could have more time with my husband. She agreed and here I am. :-)
October lessons in Upper and Lower Elmentary
We have been learning about three parts of our brains and how they function. Teaching students about their brains empowers them with language to better understand their emotions and their personal ability to impact learning. Prefrontal Cortex
The PFC is the front of our brains where we think, reason, use logic, make decisions, organize and basically, do school.
Amygdala
The "guard dog" of our brain protects us with the fight, flight or freeze response. It is our emotional center and can also hijack our brain, blocking our ability to use the PFC.
