Fun in the Library!

Welcome back to the library! Things have started to get busy in our libraries with maker clubs and Battle of the Books. This month I have met with grades 3-5 to discuss various tools for becoming super readers. We have access to awesome ebooks and audiobooks. We also have some fantastic readers advisory tools. Read on to find some great free resources!

Ebooks through Sora!

Burlington Area School District is part of the Wisconsin School Library Digital Library, which means we have free access to thousands of ebooks and audiobooks. If you have internet at home, you can access Sora through any tablet, phone, or computer. Follow the directions below to sign in!

What to read next?

Sometimes kids have a hard time knowing what to read next. During library time this month 3-5th grade has been sampling some resources that can help with reader advisory. Take a look at the resources below for some great reading recommendations!

BASD Library Catalog

If students visit our library page, https://burlingtonsd.follettdestiny.com, they can review books and see new books. First click on what school you attend, then you can log in with your BASD chromebook login and password. In Destiny Discover you can make favorites, rate books and give reviews, and explore collections of books.

Bookopolis

This is a fantastic website that students do not have to log into to get fantastic book recommendations. I told students that we might not have all of the books listed on this site- but I love hearing new recommendations for what to order! As a parent you can make an account for your child where they can be part of the book discussion. https://bookopolis.com/#/

Mrs. Nie- What Should I Read Next?

On this page I have two choices: What Should I Read Next

1. First Chapters: A site where students can listen to first chapters of books in our library to see if it is a book they would like.

2. What Kind of Reader Are You: A personality test for readers to take to find out what type of reader they are- with picks from our library.

Classlink

To get to BASD online resources, go through Classlink. There is a chain link at the top of the BASD webpage. To sign in, students do need to sign in with their BASD Chromebook login information. If they are not on a BASD Chromebook they will need to add @burlingtonsd.org after their username. Classlink

Battle of the Books (4/5th Grade)

Battle of the Books has begun! Students in 4/5th grade have signed up to join a team that works on reading a total of 20 books. After Christmas our real battles will begin. To find out more about our program, go to our Battle of the Books website. We will be marching in the Dec. 1 Holiday Parade!
