TOPS 3rd Grade Weekly Newsletter

Each Friday you will receive a grade level newsletter with important information needed to plan your upcoming week. Since you have one more week of orientation, you are receiving a special edition of the newsletter crafted specifically for students who started with us on August 29th.

You will see Class Connect (CC) sessions on your daily plan for course sessions outside of orientation like music and PE. You are not required to attend those sessions this week. However, you are free to drop in and see what class is like.

We will have a staff development/student holiday on Monday, September 17th, so enjoy a day of rest and relaxation.

Hello 3rd Graders! I'm so excited to meet you next week. We will have ELA Orientation on Tuesday, September 18 at 9:00. Please look at each ELA course below to help you prepare the week of September 17-21. I will be going over materials for each course in orientation.

Literature: This week you should have completed OLS lessons Unit 1 Lessons 1, 2, 3 which was the course introduction and the first story in your "K12 Classics for Young Readers" anthology. Next week, you will read in your "K12 Classics for Young Readers" pages 32-51, and complete "Language Arts Activity Book" pages LC 17-20. You will complete OLS Unit 3 Lessons 1-4.

Writing: You will complete OLS Unit 1 Lessons 1-4 and write in your K12 "My Journal" pages 2-7.

Vocabulary: No materials are required. You will complete OLS Unit 3 Lessons 1, 3-5.

Spelling: No materials are required. You will complete OLS Unit 5 Lessons 1, 3-5.

Reading Class Connect: ELA Course Orientation

Welcome to third grade math! Next week we will be covering classroom expectations, as well as learning to use our Blackboard tools in the orientation Class Connect session on Wednesday, September 19th. Please make sure you bring a pencil, a journal (can be a composition book or a spiral), and a working headset with a microphone to class. I can’t wait to meet each of you!

Welcome to 3rd grade science! I am very excited to see you on Thursday! Please come to class with a Science notebook and a pencil as we review the Scientific Method and some important items.

In your daily plan, you will complete Unit 1 Lessons 2, 3, 5, 7 and Unit 2 Lesson 1. I know this sounds like a lot but I promise they are easy to complete! I will also add you to our Unit 1 review game on Tuesday. This will be optional but you can also review the recording when you have completed the lessons for some added fun.

Welcome to 3rd grade Music! This week we will learn how to navigate the music program, Music Studio. I will walk you through how to find everything you need during our content orientation on Thursday morning. :) Check your email for a PDF file from me about Music Studio (it will also be available in the file share in the OLS). There are also some directions and helpful hints in the Music Reference Guide book you received in the mail with your materials.

Every week you will check the grade level newsletter to see which Music Studio lessons to complete. Just open Unit 1, Lesson 1 in the OLS and click the link to take you to Music Studio! (I marked everything else as skipped in the OLS because there isn't any content in those lessons. You can just ignore the skipped ones.)

Course prep work for the week of 09/17:

• Music Studio - Section 1, Unit 1, Lesson 3 - Rhythm Around the House
• Music Studio - Section 1, Unit 1, Lesson 4 - Move with Melody
• Music Studio - There is an extra credit assessment, but no other graded work for you to complete this week. :)
