The Mustang Messenger
August 19, 2022
Greetings Mustang Families!
We had a great week at Rancho Pico. Thanks to the help of our wonderful parent volunteers, students were issued PE lockers and PE clothes and are ready for their first PE unit. Students have been able to escape the heat at lunch and brunch in the library, wellness room, and multipurpose room. Next week we will pass out Spirit Wear to students who purchased items on our webstore.
Have a great weekend,
Catherine Nicholas, Ed.D.
Clean Campus
I am so proud of how well our students are doing keeping our campus clean and being personally responsible for throwing away their own trash after brunch and lunch!
Here is a picture of our clean campus after student lunch. Keep up the great work Mustangs!!
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
This is a friendly reminder about student drop off and pick up. Mrs. Hong and I created a video to demonstrate how to use the right/outside lane for student drop off and pick up. Parents have called to complain about cutting in line, please be patient with one another. I know it is confusing so we are hoping this video is helpful. Please do not drop off or pick up students in the parking lot- it creates a dangerous situation.
Every Tuesday is Early Release
Every Tuesday is Early Release Tuesday for teachers to meet for Professional Development, Collaboration and Department Meetings.
Student ID cards
For safety purposes, student are required to wear their ID cards everyday and will be scanned into campus at the start of the school day. ID cards are also scanned at the cafeteria where students can access one free breakfast/brunch and one free lunch meal each day. Lost ID cards can be replaced for $2.00 at the ASB office.
Enrichment Fair
Next Thursday at Lunch, we are hosting an Enrichment Fair where students will get information about our enrichment classes offered after school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:00-4:00.. We plan to start classes after labor day.
Safety First
Our district has many layers of safety in place to help keep our campuses safer.
Beginning Monday, August 22, a firearm detection canine unit will be deployed each morning to one or more of our District’s school sites. The canine unit will be composed of a uniformed handler and a dog that has been trained to detect firearms and gunpowder. During the campus visit, the canine unit will help monitor students' arrival at school in the morning. In addition, the canine unit will be used to search lockers for firearms. Our school site will be visited 10-11 times throughout the school year on a random basis.
Here is a video that we showed the students about how the dogs were trained:
We encourage you to attend a Hart District’s Safe Schools Discussion from 6-8 pm on August 31 at the Santa Clarita Activities Centre.
Back to School Night
Thursday, September 1st, is Rancho Pico's Back to School Night from 6:00 - 7:45. That day is a minimum day and students will be released at 12:10.
Rancho Pico Students Present at the Board Meeting
Rancho Pico students, Adhvika Ram, Arundhathi Jathin and Bronson Murphy, co-presented with Dr. Nicholas on the focus area of Student Learning and Instruction in our district's Strategic Plan at the Board Meeting on Wednesday night. They did an outstanding job!
Think Ahead Thursdays
Rancho Pico students are opportunity Ready!
Students are encouraged to wear a college shirt or a shirt that represents a future career goal on Thursdays. It is great to see all of the college and industry shirts out on campus.
Fridays are Spirit Days and students are encouraged to wear Rancho Pico Spirit wear.
Dress code
Student were reminded of our district's dress code at our PBIS launch. Here is section II of the dresscode:
a) Students must wear clothing including both a shirt with pants or skirt, or the equivalent (for example dresses, leggings, or shorts) and shoes. Strapless garments are not permitted
b) Shirts and dresses must have fabric to cover the front, the back, and the sides.
c) Clothing must cover undergarments (waistbands and straps excluded). Undergarments, alone, cannot be worn in place of a shirt or top.
d) Fabric must fully cover breasts, genitals and buttocks and must be solid/opaque
B and D are the issues we have been addressing with students this week with low cut tops and abdomens showing. Please go over the district dresscode with your student. We appreciate your support.
