Preparation

Dear Families,

In light of the most recent school closings, I wanted to send out some guidance about what you should expect for home learning opportunities. Please note that in addition to this letter, you will receive specific, detailed home learning plans and instructions from building administrators.

Teachers are in the process of putting together resources for our students to utilize during the closing. Students may be given hard copy and/or electronic resources. Hard copy resources may include but are not limited to: textbooks, project packets, reading materials, and workbooks. The distribution of electronic materials will primarily take place through Google Classroom for secondary students and SeeSaw for elementary students.

Both SeeSaw and Google Classroom allow teachers to provide video resources, recorded lessons/presentations, worksheets, reading materials, and many other learning opportunities. They can also facilitate discussion boards to assign and answer questions.

Families will be given opportunities to pick up materials from school on Monday 3/16 between 1 PM and 8 PM. More detailed instructions will be sent to you by your building administrator regarding this process.

Devices

Google Classroom and SeeSaw can be accessed through school provided devices as well as personal devices at home including cell phones, tablets, and PCs. As of now, students in grades 8 through 12 routinely bring their Chromebooks to and from school. Our plan is offer Chromebooks and chargers to students in grades 4 through 7 so they may work electronically while they're at home. Students in grades K-3 will have access to materials through their parents' devices using SeeSaw.

*Please contact your child(ren)'s school administrator if you have any concerns regarding access to a device or internet access.

Google Classroom

Students in grades 6-12 have had plenty of experience accessing assignments through Google Classroom. As a parent it is advisable for you to ask your child to log in and view any resources or assignments that have been provided to them. Students log in using their school-provided email address and password.

Many of you are already signed up for guardian emails. This will provide you with a summary of assignments that go to your child; however, for the most detailed view, please look on with your child as they log into their account.

SeeSaw

Over the past few years, our families have grown accustomed to using SeeSaw for communication and viewing student portfolios. Students have become very comfortable working with SeeSaw. With that being said, SeeSaw will prove to be a useful tool to help carry on instruction.

In light of this unique situation, SeeSaw has put together a new platform for families to use at home. This platform will allow students and parents to interact with materials and assignments provided by their teacher at home. Please note families will only be able to view the work of their own child.

In order to get this up and running, you will need to download the SeeSaw Class App and insert the class code which will be provided to you by each teacher. See the video below for help.
