A Note From Principal Jeff Brandt
Things have been extremely busy at DHS over the last few weeks. The first semester came to a close, the second semester is underway, and we are gearing up for the registration process. As we move into February and March, the winter activity season will be winding down. Music festivals, regional and state tournaments, Drama productions, and Spring assessments will soon be taking place. This is a busy time for staff and students. We ask that you please keep tabs on your students’ grades and attendance. Help them to make sure they are off to a great start in the second semester and are also staying on top of things as we move further into the spring.
Thank you for all of your help and support with our students! #BeMIghty

Teacher Of The Year
We would like to offer our sincerest congratulations to Trevor Conrad on being voted Dickinson Public School’s Teacher of the Year! Mr. Conrad is a Social Studies instructor and wrestling coach at Dickinson High School. Mr. Conrad brings a positive attitude, values building relationships with students, and is an excellent instructor.
On top of everything that Mr. Conrad does inside the school building, he is also a mentor to youth around the area and is active on mission trips. Mr. Conrad is supported by his wife, Sadie, and their four (soon to be five) children.
Congratulations to Trevor Conrad! DHS is very proud!
Peer to Peer
DHS Peer to Peer is a class at the high school that focuses on the inclusion of students with and without disabilities. This class believes society needs awareness of how students with disabilities feel when people assume things about them because of their disability and don't take the time to get to know them. We are all unique and deserve a chance at friendship, regardless of how we are labeled by others.
This year peer to peer has been raising money to fund a trip to Minneapolis. This will be an opportunity for students with and without disabilities to gain the life and social skills it takes to travel. Many of the students have never had the chance to fly, and may not again outside of this class trip. With this said, this trip will be very influential and educational. Some of the activities that the Peer to Peer class is hoping to participate in is going to the Mall of America, attending a Timberwolves game, and also Top Golf!

National Honor Society
Dickinson High School National Honor Society executive officers and Toy Drive committee raised funds to buy 18 toys for high school students to give to their siblings this past Christmas. A big thank you to Charley Rathgeber, Ericka Williams, Maeva Kuehl, Kamea Kessel, and Anna Tedford for ensuring the success of this yearly event. Because of this our students are able to select and wrap presents and give them to their siblings for Christmas.
NHS invitations for membership will be coming out soon. If you are a current junior or sophomore, and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, you will be receiving a letter inviting you to apply for the AL Hagen NHS chapter at Dickinson High School. Induction ceremony date hasn’t been set yet, but will be towards the end of March or early April. Deadlines for application will be Tuesday February 28th, no late applications are accepted.
ELL Student Mentoring
DHS ELL (English Language Learner) students have been mentoring their peers and it has turned out to be the beginning of an ELL peer mentoring program. Coming to a different country can be very intimidating to young people and having someone from their own age group show them around and be a friend can be so helpful and encouraging.
Erika Paiz has been mentoring Larry Duarte and Genesis Nicaragua, and Mouchefa Batcha has been mentoring Francis Kodua. This has also helped the ELL program tremendously because of the growing numbers. We are off to a great start and hoping this continues for many years to come.
Law & Justice Class
Lieutenant Kylan Klauzer took time out of his busy schedule to visit Mrs. Douglas's Law and Justice class. Lt. Klauzer spoke to the students about public safety, crime in the community, duties of his job, and the importance of making good decisions. This is a great opportunity for students as they learned about roles our community police department plays in maintaining safety in our community.
Throughout the course of the semester, students will learn an introduction to the justice system as well as an introduction to Constitutional Law, Family Law and Business Law. Students will get to hear from and meet a variety of different community members who work in the law and safety fields.
Registration
We will be completing the registration process for the 23-24 school year this week. ALL 9-11 grade students MUST turn in the colored registration form that was sent home on Tuesday. Students were given a white copy of the form last week to discuss with parents/guardians class choices for next year. If you did not see these forms, you can view what your student entered into the system by logging into PowerSchool and choosing Class Registration on the left.
If you have any questions about anything regarding the classes chosen, please contact me at tzubke@dpsnd.org or 701-456-0030. Thank you for helping with this process!
