Yesterday, we finished up our sermon series “What We Believe and Why We Believe It”. There’s one last week of homework which you can find in the newsletter below. I would encourage you to thumb through the rest of the Blue Book chapters to see what interests you - then study the topics you want to learn more about on your own. As always, if you have questions about what you read, I would be happy to have a discussion with you about it. We will start a short sermon series for the month of December about the theology behind some of the Christmas carols we sing. We’ll look at “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” this Sunday.
I wanted to give you an update from our Search Committee for a Next Generation Minister. We found a candidate that we were ready to extend a call to in November, but he declined at this time because of a crisis at his current church. As a group, we were disappointed in this news, but we trust that God will bring us the right man in His timing. As we regrouped, one of the things affecting that timing is EBC’s current giving pattern.
Our current giving is not sufficient for us to add a third full-time staff member. So the Finance and Search Committees both agreed it was wise to hold off on a full-time hire until our giving will support it. In the mean time, the plan is to consider any part-time applicants we may receive. The Search Committee is hopeful that in the New Year, EBC’s finances will allow us to resume the search for a full-time applicant. Thank you for your prayers. Please continue to ask God to send us the right man at the right time.
One final note, we will have a business meeting directly after the morning worship service on Sunday, December 10 to vote on the Proposed 2024 Budget as well as 2024 Committee Members.
