Ohio Association of Student Councils, June 2017
The Ohio Association of Student Councils is an organization dedicated to the teaching of leadership skills, organizational skills, and people skills valuable to the members and officers of all student organizations!
OASC has partnered with the iBELIEVE Foundation to offer eight different weeks of summer workshop programming! Summer workshop is a 5 day, 4 night summer camp opportunity for student leaders in the middle level program (entering grades 7-9) and the senior high program (entering grades 10-12). These summer programs encourage the development of leadership skills, improves understanding of setting and achieving worthy goals, and inspires young leaders to accept challenges and responsibilities, so they may return to their communities with knowledge, convictions and understanding which will empower them to better all they encounter. Our summer programming also facilitates life long connections between student leaders from all over the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and most recently, Kentucky.

How did you get involved in OASC?
When I was in high school I attended OASC as a student. My school, Northwest High School, also hosted the conference in 2003 and I was one of the housing chairs.
What do you see as the benefits of OASC?
Leadership, networking, teamwork, communication, stepping outside of your comfort zone, building relationships, self development and identity.
What's your favorite part about being a Student Council adviser?
The students! They make it all worth it!
What is your least favorite part?
Time away from family.
How do you think these skills are applicable outside of Student Council?
These skills are helpful in their everyday life. Especially when they graduate high school and are off to college or the workforce. They help them lead others, their departments, their families, and their life. They are also learning the ability to network and use resources and knowledge from other schools. Take that knowledge and bring it back to their own schools. That skill is crucial in the workforce.
How has being an advisor helped you to grow?
It has given me the opportunity to lead more individuals, and it has taught me that students will do amazing things, when their leader gives them the opportunity to try on their own!
What's one piece of advice you would give to new/other StuCo advisers? Advice for the students?
There are times when it is hectic or stressful, but the opportunity to work with your school's student leaders is worth it!
Enjoy the time now, and soak in all the information and knowledge they are giving you. Implement that into your life and school. You will be surprised by the results, and surprised by the impact it can have.
