4th Grade Science with Mr. McIntosh
Looking Back –
These first two lessons in Unit 10 started with the foundation of the shape of the Earth and its movement around the Sun. These ideas of rotation and revolution give us the day/night cycle and seasons of the year which give us a jumping off place for studying the rest of the solar system. Next, we will look at the brightest object of our night sky – the Moon.
Looking Ahead –
Even though we see the changing appearance of the Moon from night to night, it can still be a mystery to some why it changes the way that it does. In this week’s lesson, we will explain this transformation through the lunar cycle to better understand how our only natural satellite makes its way around us each month. Maybe each of us will pay a bit more attention to the moon each night as we marvel at its movement.
News of Astronomy for the Week: The brightest comet of the year is now visible in the night sky. You can even spot this with a good set of binoculars! Check out information about how to see Comet 46P/Wirtanen in this article from Earthsky.org.
