From the Principal...
MacArthur Families,
We had a great week at MacArthur! Time flies when we are having fun - it is crazy to think we are just about half way through November already. Our scholars have been working hard in their learning endeavors and we are excited to see the growth happening daily. Evaluating student performance on the Forward Exam, which all 3rd -8th grade students took in spring, is one way we measure student growth. The results of the Forward Exam indicate student achievement, school growth, closing the gap, and on-track college readiness.
To further understand how students at MacArthur compare to students across the state, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction issues a state report card to each school that measures overall school performance based on Forward Exam results.
All public schools, including MacArthur, received a report card from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction summarizing school performance. The report card is intended to help schools utilize data and target improvement efforts to ensure students are ready for the next educational step – including the next grade level, high school, college, and careers.
Schools receive a score in each of the following areas:
Overall Score: combines three scores from the areas of Student Achievement, Student Growth, and On-Track and Postsecondary Readiness to determine if the school meets Wisconsin Department of Instruction standards
Student Achievement: measures proficiency in reading and math on state assessments
School Growth: measured by year-to-year improvements in achievement
Closing Gaps: measures how schools are helping to close the achievement gap.
On-Track and Postsecondary Readiness: measures students’ readiness for high school based on third-grade reading, eighth-grade math, and student attendance.
Please know in the next coming weeks the state will be releasing our school report cards. The district will be sending out notifications when that report card is available.
Sincerely,
Mr. Gonzalez

Late Registration Fees: Mrs. Krueger in the office will be reaching out to any families beginning on November 15th regarding outstanding registration fees. If you are unsure whether you have unpaid fees, please go to Skyward, and click FEE MANAGEMENT on the left-hand side. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Krueger at mkrueger@gsdwi.org.
School and Office Closed: Please note that there is no school Wednesday, November 23rd, Thursday, November 24th, and Friday, November 25th. The office will also be closed during this time.
Notes from the Health Office:
Permission Slips for Medications: As a reminder, all medications (prescription or over-the-counter) need to have a permission slip turned into the health office in order for administration to be possible at school. This includes cough drops. Please do not send in over-the-counter meds or prescription meds to school with a child. Instead, all medication needs to be dropped off at the front office with accompanied signed permission slips.
All over the counter meds will need to be stored and administered in the health room.
Please find various health forms here and let us know if you have any questions at all.
The buttons below will take you directly to the permission slips for over-the-counter and prescription medications.
24-Hour Rule: As a reminder, if your child has a fever of 100 degrees or above, has diarrhea, or is vomiting, they need to be out of school until they are symptom-free for 24 hours.

School Happenings
Snack Sale!
Ms. Biermann’s first grade students are hosting a snack sale. For the past 18 plus years, MacArthur students have contributed to the Germantown community. This year the money earned will go directly to the St. Boniface Food Pantry. The sale will take place Wednesday, November 16 through Tuesday, November 22.
If you are able to help with store-bought already packaged PEANUT/NUT FREE snack items, we would appreciate donations. Your scholar's classroom will visit the sale on a day that works with their schedule (information on that day will be communicated by the classroom teacher). Everything will be sold for 50 cents with a daily 2 item limit. If you would like to give a monetary donation, it can be used for more snack items or added to the grade total. Please have your scholar bring in their items to be brought to Ms. Biermann"s class or bring them to the office by this coming Tuesday, November 15.
Your support is greatly appreciated for this wonderful MacArthur tradition.
NED SHOW
NED Yo-Yo Sale
NED yoyos are available for purchase to support the free show and message. If you have not purchased yet and would like one, the yoyos will be available for purchase before school (8:45 to 9:05) all of next week (11/14 - 11/18).
Please note, in order to purchase a yoyo, an order form and money (cash or check) either already needed to be handed in, or you can have your child(ren) bring in a completed ORDER FORM on the morning they would like to pick out the yoyo before school. If you have already handed in an order form to school, your scholar still needs to pick out the yoyo in person during the sale! Please remind them to stop in before school to pick up the yo-yo color of their choice.
Here is an important link to help them get off to a good start with proper string length adjustment, click here. Here are direct links on string adjusting or and trick instructions!
Additionally, here are a couple of our favorite follow up home resources from the Then NED Show website. You may want to use these with your child as they are designed to go hand in hand with the program.
If you'd like additional resources, they are available here.
And don’t forget to ask your student what they learned in the show about Never giving up, Encouraging others and Doing your best!

News from the PTA
Hello MacArthur Family!
Thanks to everyone who made the Bingo Night and the Book Fair such a big success this year! As we start to wind down this semester, it is time to turn our sights to the beginning of next year. As you may know, our MacCarnival takes place on February 24th. This is a huge event with games, food, activities, a basket raffle and a silent auction. In order to ensure this event is a success, we are looking for the following help right now:
1) We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to shadow the current PTA members running the basket raffle and food portions of the MacCarnival to learn what they do. If you are good at coordinating donations with teachers and parents, the basket raffle would be a great place for you! If you like working with local restaurants, then shadowing the food coordinator would be ideal!
2) We also need people to make phone calls to get donations for our silent auction.
If you are interested in learning more about what those roles entail or want to sign up to help make phone calls, please contact me at ptamacarthur@gmail.com
Thank you!
