Message from Superintendent Mike Johnson
As I shared earlier this week, due to Oregon Health Authority's lifting of the indoor mask mandate, masks will become optional in CSD schools and facilities effective at 11:59 p.m. today.
Beginning Monday, some students and staff will continue to wear face coverings in our hallways and classrooms; others will not. At CSD, individual decisions surrounding COVID-19 safety, including masking, will be honored. Thank you for meeting these choices with kindness and respect for others' personal circumstances and comfort levels. While views may vary regarding these changes, we all can agree that the improvements in our public health landscape that made these changes possible are, indeed, cause for celebration.
Speaking of celebrating, I would be remiss to close the week without once again publicly sharing my deep and heartfelt appreciation for our district's 88 incredible classified employees. This week across Oregon, schools have been recognizing staff during Classified Employee Appreciation Week. Our classified team members are key to our district's operations and, quite literally, keep the wheels turning at CSD. Each of them plays an important role and I am grateful for all they do to staff our offices and libraries, maintain our buildings, buses, and computer networks, support our teachers and students, and protect the health of our community. Thank you, classified staff, for your dedication and commitment!
Wishing you health and happiness as you "spring forward" this weekend,
Mike Johnson
Superintendent
March 16th - 6:30 p.m. - Come see speaker Chad Hymas at CHS Gymnasium
Mark your calendars for a special opportunity! On Wednesday, March 16th at 6:30 p.m. at the Creswell High School gymnasium, internationally renowned speaker Chad Hymas will be sharing a presentation with the community of Creswell entitled “Who needs legs when you have wings?” All are welcome to attend this free community event.
One of the youngest people to ever be inducted into the National Speaker Hall of Fame, Chad travels hundreds of thousands of miles per year, captivating and entertaining audiences around the globe. He has been called by the Wall Street Journal “one of the 10 most inspirational people in the world.”
In 2001, at the age of 27, Chad’s life changed in an instant when a 2,000-pound bale of hay shattered his neck, leaving him a quadriplegic. But Chad’s dreams were not paralyzed that day—he became an example of what is possible.
Chad is a best-selling author, president of his own communications company, and recognized world-class wheelchair athlete. In 2003, Chad set a world record by wheeling his chair 513 miles from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas; he also plays basketball, full contact quad rugby, and races marathons.
In addition to this special community event, next week Chad will be sharing with CSD students and staff his inspirational message about how to overcome adversity, surround ourselves with good people, and impact others.
We hope you will be able to attend on Wednesday evening!
