Principal's Message
We are halfway through the school year which means some changes as we switch semesters.
Tuesday marks the last day of our semester with students attending all six of their classes. There will be no school on Wednesday as teachers prepare for spring semester and wrap up fall semester. We will see students back on Thursday morning. Students will go to all six classes to meet any new teachers.
Looking ahead to spring semester, please note we will have student conferences on February 8th, 9th, and 10th. The conference format will be different for students at each grade level to better meet the different needs of each graduating class.
Late February also means the beginning of spring sports. While practices begin on the 28th, all necessary paperwork (including a current sports physical) needs to be on file in order to participate. Sign-ups are in the office. If you have further questions you can contact Bryant Michaelson at bmichaelson@meridian.wednet.edu.
We look forward to seeing you at spring student conferences and wish your student a great beginning to the new semester.
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Go Trojans!

We're rebuilding our website and we need your help!
We'd like to invite you to take a short survey about the Meridian School District website. We are currently working on many improvements and would appreciate your feedback. Our goal is to launch a new website in the fall. Please share your feedback by Feb. 4. Thank you!

Angelo Mirante
Mr. Mirante has worked at Meridian for about four months. He says his favorite thing about Meridian School District is that it’s a small school/community so he feels like he knows lots of the students even if he doesn’t have them in his classes. The reason he chose to be a teacher is because when he was a freshman in high school he had a teacher that supported him quite a lot. That impact felt really powerful so he wanted to be able to have that impact on other students. His favorite thing about teaching is making those connections between his students but his most favorite thing is when his students finally laugh at his jokes. Outside of school Mr. Mirante used to be a tour guide in Alaska, it kind of started off his teaching career. Mr. Mirante’s favorite free time activities include being outdoors, whether it be backpacking in the Cascades, cross country skiing, and camping in the snow. He also absolutely loves to watch the Mariners. Mr. Mirante also said that he is very thankful to the Meridian community. He’s having a blast with the students and is loving the connections he’s made. The biggest highlight of Mr. Mirante’s teaching career is when the person he’s been idolizing since he could understand what baseball meant, Rick Rizzs, came to Meridian High School! Rick Rizzs had broadcasted thousands of the games Mr. Mirante had listened to. He was here to hand out scholarships when Mr. Mirante heard. He sprinted to the office to possibly get a picture with him, and then Rick Rizzs invited himself into Mr. Mirante’s first period class. He gave the class a quick five minute speech about following your dreams and living your life with passion. Mr. Mirante said it “literally blew his mind.” Students say that he “tries to interact with students and tries to get to know them personally,” “can keep a conversation,” and he’s “super nice and great.”
Hot Lunch Menu for Jan. 24th - 28th

National Puzzle Day, January 29th
January 29th is National Puzzle Day. It is the perfect day to do a little brain exercise. Whether it’s a crossword, jigsaw, or Sudoku, puzzles engage our brain in more ways than one. Scientists have discovered that when we work on a jigsaw puzzle, we utilize both sides of the brain, improving memory, cognitive function and problem solving skills in the process. By utilizing puzzles, people can stimulate the brain and improve a number of skills.
