Message from Dr. Johnson
Women's History Month
The 2023 National Women's History Month theme is "Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories." We have a district full of phenomenal women who make history daily in the lives of our students. I look forward to seeing many of your students telling the stories of our teachers in the years to come. We encourage all women to continue striving for excellence as you build the story that others will tell.
Students and Finalizing EOY Items
As we continue to work preparing our students for testing, please find ways to motivate your child to do their best. Call your child's teacher or administrator to get your student's testing goals. School contact goes a long way in ensuring we are all on the same page in ensuring student success.
We are also preparing for summer school. Please get in touch with your child's teachers about grades. Please sign up and monitor the parent portal. We want to provide as many opportunities as possible for our students to make strides and finish strong.
Thank you for your support of CCSD academic initiatives. Spring Break is near!
Spring Break!
Students will be out this Friday, April 7th, and Spring Break is April 10-14.

Classroom Learning in Lit
SBMHS students in Ms. Henry's high school science classes prepare for pig dissections and work on Boyle Atomic Models of elements from the Periodic Table. Students drew models based on their calculations of protons, electrons, and neutrons in the elements.
F.E. DuBose continues to provide the rigor and hands-on experiences for students to prepare for many career paths. Encourage students to take a pathway!
Mrs. Housey's 8th Grade Digital Art & Design Class learned about the Aperture and how changing f Stops relate to the depth of field, making portrait mode amazing.
Congratulations to Chef Jean Shaw and her culinary students Paris Johnson, Shayla Bennett, and Zakia Baxter, who participated in a competition at the Culinary Institute of the South in Bluffton.
District Wellness
MECC students began their Kid's Heart Challenge this week. Students will learn about and work on activities to build strong bodies and minds. They will also meet kids with special hearts and raise funds for the health of all hearts.
Gardening continues across the district!
Clemson Extension representative Jennifer Mongold continues her work in the district, providing our students with the education to make healthy drinking and eating choices.
Wellness at SBMHS involved a Princess Day with the theme "Discovering the Princess in You." This event, hosted by Anidra Ragin, District Social Work, and Ms. Blanding, Science Teacher, focused on subjects such as Self-Care, Establishing Boundaries, and Finding Freedom and Soaring. Thank you to Dr. Goldsmith, Melanie Dees (United Way Diamonds Program), and Pastor Cheryl Beaufort for imparting your words and strategies to help our female students to be the best they can be.
