SOAR to New Heights and Go Where Eagles Dare!
Principal's Corner
Eagle family,
I would like to express my gratitude for a great first week. Students welcomed me with open arms, literally! I received more hugs, high fives, and fist bumps in one week than a whole semester in high school. Parents were patient with our dropoff procedures, diligent in bringing students to school every day, and took care to bring supplies to their children’s teachers. Teachers and staff welcomed our returning students with high-interest lessons and a focus on social and emotional learning. Students created their essential agreements in class where they helped to decide how:
Students treat their teacher
Students treat each other
Teachers treat their students
And everyone treats their environment
The week of the 22-26th, students will take the MAP test to measure their academic levels and progress over the year. Please ask your students to take their time and try as hard as they can to answer the questions to the best of their ability. Teachers and students will also be working creatively to decorate their classroom doors with representations of the IB learner profile. We hope to display their hard work in this newsletter!
Success in school still relies on the ABCs!:
A: Attendance remains a big priority for all of us. We saw the impact absence had on student performance and growth because of the pandemic; we will continue to see these effects if students are chronically absent from school.
B: The Behavior of students as part of a classroom community is essential to an environment conducive to learning. When students are respectful of themselves and others they are participants in a learning community that helps everyone succeed.
C: Coursework. The effort that students put forth in their studies, especially when they struggle, is critical to their growth. Students should be challenged by challenging work. It is the responsibility of we the community, parents, guardians, and teachers to help them to grow stronger.
I have felt the Eagle pride in every single stakeholder I have met. I am proud to count myself among you!
Sincerely,
Luis De La Garza
