January 2021
To re-enroll, a 4-H family must log in to their existing 4-H Online profile. Reminder DO NOT create a new family or member profile.
Enrolling youth must select at least one club/unit and at least one project.
Payment of the $10.00 enrollment fee must be made at the time of enrollment, using a credit card or bank or prepaid debit card.
As a reminder enrollments will remain in a pending status until membership fees have been paid.

4-H Beef Educational Series
Series will be held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm, beginning in January. (excluding July and August),
The first session will be January 12. Don’t delay, follow the link on the flyer to sign-up or click HERE!
Any and all members are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Topics will include:
- 4-H news
- Enrollment
- Follow-along Craft Demonstration by the Leadership Club
The craft will be intricately designed paper snowflakes and origami corner bookmarks. Supplies that are needed will include several sheets of blank paper (any color), scissors, a ruler, stickers, pencil, crayons, markets, and any other small decorating items.
Door prizes will be selected from those members that register for the meeting and those that attend the meeting.
Although virtual activity clubs are new to Maryland 4-H, they will still contain all of the elements that have given Maryland 4-H its rich 100+ year history: hands-on learning, connections with peers and caring adults, and an inclusive, safe environment.
Maryland 4-H Virtual Activity Clubs are free for all current Maryland 4-H members.
4-H Art IQ - Club Age Range: youth ages 11-18
Club Description: Come boost your art IQ and develop creativity, independence, and confidence with the 4-H Art IQ Club. Each meeting will be exploring various art media through the inspiration of weekly guest artists. Upon registration, a material list will be provided for families to purchase their own materials. All art creations are designed to be low-cost. Participants will be featured in a final art showcase.
Sports Nutrition for Teens: Take your game to the next level - Club Age Range: 12 - 18
Club Description: Do you like to play sports and exercise? Are you looking for a way to improve your performance on the field while learning to live a healthy life? As an athlete you know that your body is like a well designed machine. Are you giving it the right fuel to perform at your best? The Maryland 4-H Sports Nutrition for Teens club will explore how the body converts the foods we eat into energy to perform your best on game day. You will learn about proper hydration, pre and post workout snacks, and in game fueling. If you play any sport or just enjoy participating in physical activities this club will help you take your game to the next level. Information presented in the club meetings will be based on Oregon State Extensions WAVE Sports Nutrition curriculum.
Coding Jammers 4-H Club - Club Age Range: 8-13 years old
Club Description: Join us for a virtual computer science club for beginners! During each session, youth will work through modules of Google’s CS First Curriculum that uses MIT’s Scratch programming language to teach fundamentals of computer science. Youth will animate a dance party, create musical art, develop a music video, and more! Each session will build on skills learned in prior sessions. A computer is required.
Clover Critters 4-H Virtual Activity Club - Club Age Range: 5-7 years old (as of 1/1/2021)
Club Description: Are you a clover age youth who is interested in learning about animals? Join us for an hour of age appropriate learning fun. Participants will learn about animals, complete simple crafts related to animals, play animal themed games, and interact with youth their age.
Science of the Dog - Club Age Range: 13-18
Club Description: Are you interested in learning more about the science of dogs, and dog related topics? Do you typically participate in Dog Bowl, Dog Skillathon, or are you interested in those contests? This club is intended for Intermediate and Senior aged youth who are interested in taking their knowledge of dogs to a new level. Topics that will be discussed are based around the topic areas for Dog Bowl and Dog Skillathon. Topics include: breeds, nutrition, parasites, health, shows and competitive events, equipment, etc. This club will be utilizing guest speakers including: an AKC conformation show handler, purebred dog breeder, veterinarian, etc. Youth will also continue to develop their leadership skills by conducting a short presentation on a topic they are interspersed in at the final meeting.
4-H Skillathons, Contests & More - Club Age Range: 8-18
Club Description: Are you looking for a way to develop and showcase your 4-H Life Skills? Wanna show off your knowledge about your 4-H project? Do you know about all of the exciting contests 4-H offers? Answering yes to any question means you are a match for joining the 4-H Contest Club. Each meeting will focus on a different contest offered by 4-H. We will review the requirements for each contest and the knowledge that each contest is based on.
4-H Experimentopia -Club Age Range: 11 -18
Club Description: Come and join us in the science laboratory where youth will use common household items to conduct different experiments at each session that explore animal and plant science subjects. We will send out a list of the common household items we will be using for each experiment so that we can do these experiments together. Youth will share common interests and interact through online games and experiments, and they will have the chance to practice communication skills in a supportive environment by allowing them to do a short presentation on an experiment of their own at the conclusion of this series.

Not a 4-H member? Not a problem! One of our Virtual Activity Club Leaders will contact you to enroll. The one time annual $10.00 enrollment fee gives you access to a full year of fun and enriching activities and events!
Record Books for 2020
Although record books for the 2020 year are optional, they are still encouraged as a way to document your year in 4-H and be eligible for record book awards and senior scholarship opportunities.
If you decide to complete a record book they are due to the 4-H Office by February 5, 2021.

Explain the importance and power of 4-H Involvement through connections during trying times
Applications are due to Ashley by February 5, 2021 for the 2020 year.
Dairy Steer Weigh-In and Tagging
Dairy Steer Tag In is currently tentatively scheduled for February 20, 2021.

Maryland 4-H Virtual Dog Fun Day
Mark your calendars for February 21 and join us to explore the many areas of the Dog Project including dog skillathon, dog bowl, and more through this highly interactive, virtual afternoon, dedicated to dogs and all the opportunities that the dog project can provide 4-H members.

Join us every Thursday at 6:00 p.m. from January 14th - February 25th
Each week we will focus on different aspects of the veterinary science field. We will have guest speakers on reproduction, poultry production, beef production, dairy production, a tour through a vet clinic, feeds, and talk to a veterinarian that worked with pharmaceutical companies on that aspect of veterinary medicine!
Youth must be 13 - 18 years old to join us.

Public Speaking Contest
If we are not able to hold our public speaking contest in person, it will be converted to a virtual format.

Just as a reminder University of Maryland 4-H transitioned back to virtual programming on November 16, 2020. Our state office and local 4-H teams will announce when we can resume the review of in-person activity requests.
We continue to encourage the use of distance technology. Maryland 4-H has provided a
variety of support and opportunities as shared on our Learning from Home webpage and in the
Maryland 4-H Volunteer Handbook. For information about specific local 4-H events, please
contact your local 4-H Team.
