The Gator Gazette
August 26, 2022
Gator Greetings
Thanks to all families that attended Back to School Night last night at Allisonville. It was fantastic to see so many parents and caregivers engaging in our school. Thanks also to our teachers and PTO for preparing wonderful presentations. I hope that you found these informative and inspirational. Please reach out to your teacher with any questions. The Specials teachers’ welcome videos are included in this week’s Gator Gazette. Enjoy!
Today we had our first Gator Gathering of the school year. What a beautiful afternoon! If you are new to Allisonville, a Gator Gathering is a monthly all-school community meeting where we come together to celebrate and connect. At this Gator Gathering, we introduced our six Gator Packs and welcomed new students to their Pack. All students and staff at AV received a Gator Pack t-shirt, which your child should have worn home today. This shirt is a gift from the school and can be worn each month during Gator Gatherings or Gator Pack Meetings. These are FUN times for us to celebrate our pride in ourselves and our school community at Allisonville.
Students finished taking their benchmark assessments this week, which included NWEA reading and math on the computer, and then F&P reading assessment with their teacher. Soon they will take math summative assessments from the new math adoption, Eureka2. Next week teachers and coaches will meet to discuss the students’ fall assessment data to determine individual learning needs. From there, we will create differentiation plans, including academic intervention and enrichment in both reading and math. The fall NWEA results will be posted on Skyward soon, and also shared with families at parent-teacher conferences on September 21st. During the first week of September, we will be administering a Panorama Survey to students in grades 3-5 for social-emotional learning (SEL). There is a letter from me later in the Gazette with more information about this survey.
Don’t forget that the Scholastic Book Fair started this week and will continue through next week. Students can purchase books during their library specials time or during morning time. Look for more book fair information in the Gazette. We have “caught you reading” book tickets for students to select a free book at the Book Fair as well.
There are great things happening at Allisonville every day. In addition to the Gator Gazette, Follow us on Twitter, @Allisonville ES and Facebook, @Allisonville.Elem to learn more about our school activities and for important updates and reminders.

Gazette Translation
Did you know the Gazette can be translated in over 100 languages? We have several different languages spoken at Allisonville including Spanish, Chinese, Swahili, French, Haitian-Creole, and more. The Gazette is easily translated into each of these thanks to our newsletter provider, smore. Select the translate option on the top right and choose your language.
4th Grade Field Day
Allisonville Book Fair: Reading Gives You Oceans of Possibilities!
The book fair will be open during the school day and students can shop during their specials time. Students can shop during the day from Wednesday, August 24 - Wednesday, August 31.
Scholastic Book Fairs have implemented a new policy to meet tax obligations for our school and Scholastic. ALL schools are now required to collect sales tax for all purchases at their Fairs. This means that all purchases with be taxed at Indiana’s 7% tax rate.
To simplify this for students, I’ve been explaining that they should bring a DIME for every DOLLAR they spend. This isn’t the exact amount, but hopefully will make it a little easier for students to understand. This is the first time we will charge sales tax.
If a student does not have enough money for the tax, we will pay it for them.
Panorama Survey
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. As you may already be aware, building our social-emotional learning (SEL) skills is an important goal for our school this year. Over the next several weeks, students and teachers will participate in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.
We will be asking for your learner to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing at school. The survey shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to complete.
The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on their confidence in themselves as learners, how they interact with others, if they feel a sense of belonging in their classroom and overall school climate.
We are asking that all of our students in grades 3-12 participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor called Panorama to support us in administering these surveys.
You can learn about the student surveys at the link HERE and for frequently asked questions refer to the link HERE. If you have any additional questions or concerns about the SEL survey, please don’t hesitate to contact Beth Student, our school’s survey coordinator at stewart@msdwt.k12.in.us. If you would like to use an interpreter to ask questions about the Panorama survey, please call our multilingual voicemail line at 317-259-5446, and one of our district interpreters will return your call.

AVPTO Student Directory
CONNECT THROUGH OUR SCHOOL DIRECTORY
Each school year, the Allisonville PTO compiles a student directory. Again this year, the directory will be distributed both in print and electronically to ALL families.
The directory will include contact information for each student (parent/guardian name(s), home number and email). These will be listed in the directory as they are listed in Skyward. A student’s parent/guardian can choose to have their student's contact information changed or not included in the directory using the form below. Change requests should be submitted by 9/2/2022.
Please fill out this Directory change form should any changes need to be made.
