Community Newsletter: Making this our #BestYearYet
#Thankful
I am so incredibly thankful for the amazing Veterans Day celebration our scholars put together and attended! It was an incredible event. Our scholars did an amazing tribute to those who have served. A huge thank you to Ms. Opper and Mr. Forrester for all their hard work into making sure this event was memorable for our school and community!
I also want to thank our parents who attended our first Parent University night event! Thank you for coming out to listen to why our focus in on literacy and how literacy is in every classroom across our schoolhouse! Please plan to join us for our next Parent University on February 2nd where we talk about HOMEWORK in the middle grades!
Please make sure that you are signed up for my REMIND, as well as the grade level REMINDS so you don't miss a beat! I have found some glitches with the REMIND and some parents have signed up for the one I use for teachers and staff. I have removed you from that REMIND, so please make sure you are still linked in to the one that is called BCMS Community. The link is at the bottom of this newsletter.

Map Testing- Reports and Goals
Winter Map Testing Window: November 29th - December 20th
Our next session of winter MAP testing begins right after our Thanksgiving holiday. We will be using our goal setting from WIN to track these next four weeks as we prepare to test in Reading, Language Usage, and Math. I can't wait to see how much we have grown! If you would like to look at your child's MAP reports and have us discuss it with you, please email me! MAP reports give us lots of great information about the domains of learning and where we can enrich and remediate our scholars.
Notes from Ms. Raeburn
We have one more week of learning before we take a much deserved and needed vacation. I wanted to thank all of our families that came out to our first Parent University event this last week! We had awesome conversations regarding Literacy and Grading. Based on our conversations, we are going to begin our next Parent University events at 6:00 pm!
I want to take some time to begin to highlight social media and the impact on teens. If you know me, you know I LOVE Twitter! It is a wonderful platform to tell the story of BCMS! However, our middle level learners still need guidance when it comes to social media. I found this article and think it has a lot of great tips when it comes to the brains of our middle schoolers and how we, as parents and teachers, can help regulate social media. We are having many issues from social media spill over into our schoolhouse. That is a dangerous recipe that will not help us grow as scholars and promote achievement.
Please take some time to read this article and come to our next Parent University night where we will add a session about Social Media and the Middle Level Learner!
I have also had some great conversations with our families about why our focus is on literacy across our schoolhouse. Good reading skills are the foundation for students in any subject. You cannot learn mathematics or science without being able to understand the content. Such skills also are demanded in the workplace. Able readers have a better chance to improve their lifestyle by obtaining well-paying jobs in career fields that would otherwise not be available to them. Literacy can make the difference between whether a child drops out of school or graduates from college. It truly is the foundation for a successful life! Readers truly are leaders! We are committed to growing our literacy and we know that it will have an impact on all our content areas!
Thank you for being proactive and for supporting our school and our passion work! I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you! If you have a concern or a comment, please do not hesitate to email or call me: eraeburn@bryan.k12.ga.us or 912-626-5050 or 912.255.0630.

Whatever I Need!
WIN period is an elite time for our scholars to work on goal setting, grade checking, acceleration of curriculum, and enrichment. Please ask your child what goals they are working on during WIN time! The more we talk about goals and we model that having goals is critical, the more they will work to achieve them! Clubs is running great! I love seeing all the scholars discovering new interests and passions!
We added more structured elements to WIN time to make sure that we are targeting the areas of growth for our scholars. We will do a progress monitoring check in WIN on 12/12!
Monday- Goal setting and Grade Checking- Goals are set based on Reading RIT MAP scores
Tuesday- Enrichment and Remediation Rotations begin! Short form data is ready!
