This week's Educator of the Week is MHS Science Teacher, Ms. Christine Pitts. Ms. Pitts has been teaching science at MHS since 2013. Prior to that, she worked for two years as a tutor. She currently teaches Biology and Anatomy & Physiology.

Ms. Pitts is a positive, hard working and dedicated educator who is well respected by students and staff. She's a leader in the Science department and is always ready to help with curriculum development, enhancing instructional strategies or assisting new teachers.

Ms. Pitts does everything she can to help her students reach their potential and will always work to find strategies that best meet the needs of her students. When you see Ms. Pitts in action in the classroom, you know right away she is having a positive impact on her students. We are fortunate to have her on our team and we thank her for all that she does for our District. #bettertogether.

Marshfield's Community Rib Cook Off Committee (pictured below) used money raised at their annual Rib Cook Off to donate $22,000 to the district's McKinney-Vento Program. This program is dedicated to assisting our homeless students and those in foster care. Currently, the district has 66 homeless students and 25 who are in foster care.

The donation from the Community Rib Cook Off Committee was presented to the School Committee at their January 10th meeting. The District's McKinney-Vento Liaison, Ms. Robynne Ryan-Lambert, also was able to provide a brief update on the program and how it has been able to assist these students.

We cannot thank the Community Rib Cook Off Committee enough for their generosity. This is just one more example of Marshfield community stakeholders helping those in need. #bettertogether

On Tuesday, January 10th, I presented to the School Committee an overview on the MPSD Preliminary Operating Budget for FY24. Below is a link to the PowerPoint that was shared with the Committee.

At the January 24th School Committee meeting there will be a Public Hearing on the FY24 Operating Budget prior to the SC voting on the budget.

Kudos to Johnny Pozerski, a senior at MHS, for taking on the task of refurbishing Marshfield Fire Department's "Marine 3" as part of his Eagle Scout Project. Johnny has put in countless hours on this project since last summer and has teamed up with other scouts and community stakeholders to bring this 50 year old boat back to life. A big thanks to John Foster Lumber and Price Automotive for their assistance on the project as well.
