January is School Board Recognition Month
Did You Know That January is School Board Recognition Month?
Please take a moment to appreciate and recognize the seven outstanding volunteer leaders who represent and ensure the success of Sunnyvale ISD. We are grateful for their service, dedication and time.
The theme of this year’s School Board Recognition Month is "Locally Elected, Community Connected," which highlights the connection between school trustees and their communities. School board members are the largest group local officials in the state.
Our trustees are:
Brad Cravens, President
Linda Gooch, Vice President
Michael Threet, Secretary
Ben Wright
Pollye Hunter
Kelleyton Wilson, Sr.
Lee Mathew, RN, MSN, MBA, NEA-BC
Future Health Professionals Students (HOSA) Advance to State Competition
Congrats to the following Health Science students (who are a part of HOSA - Future Health Professionals - formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America), who have advanced to the state competition.
Sam Thomas competed in the Biotechnology competition. This competition focuses on knowing skills required for a laboratory setting using Biotechnology. He passed a written test to move onto the SLC (Spring Leadership Conference) competition and then took 2nd overall in Area. He will move on to State in April.
Jesslynn Gigi and Caitlyn Chandy were on a team competing in Forensic Science. They also passed a written test, advancing them onto round two at the SLC. Once at the SLC, they were given two case studies including and autopsy report, a police report and evidence. They were then given five open-ended questions to solve. They are freshman and took 2nd in Area.
Sydney Fawcett, Olivia Pathisseril, Sofia Cantu and Fatima Saad competed in a Biomedical Debate. They also passed a written test moving, on to round two. At the SLC, they performed two debates - winning all of them! They won 1st place overall in Area!
Each of these teams and individuals will head to State April 3-5 to compete for Nationals. We are so very proud of all them! Congrats to our HOSA team and to their advisor, Carie Stanfill!

SHS Career Day
Are you interested in participation in our SHS Career Day on Wednesday, March 6th?
SHS is in the process of bringing together different occupations for our students to learn about. SHS wants them to see the variety of opportunities in the real world. The program will be a gallery walk in our gym. We will release our students in two sessions. The high school wants to give them enough time to be able to explore the different career paths. You will have a six foot table to create a booth - you'll be able to bring handouts, displays or even different activities that students might enjoy. SHS wants our students to hear your story! Please click on the link below to register.
If you have any questions, please email Clark Mitchell at clark.mitchell@sunnyvaleisd.com.
