Stonybrook Red Storm Forecast

Week of: March 9, 2020

Stonybrook RedStorm Forecast Week of: March 9, 2020

Dear Stonybrook Families,

We have two weeks left before spring break and after spring break, just seven weeks of school. As I have communicated throughout the year, we are working on building a strong, positive school culture so that we can spend more time teaching and learning. Please continue to remind your scholar to: not wear hoodies or coats during school, keep their cell phones and ear buds put away, to walk in the hallways, not to horse play in the hallways and be respectful to peers and all adults in the building. Your scholars are growing academically and socially and we want to maximize their growth by having a Civil, Orderly, Respectful environment where all students are consistently showing Excellence.

Coronavirus Update

This is a follow up from our February 28th school newsletter communication regarding the COVID-19, better known as Coronavirus Disease 2019. It is important for all of us to be aware and knowledgeable of what COVID-19 is and how it is spread. The following information was obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) virus, and we are learning more about it every day. The virus is thought to spread mainly from person to person who are either in close contact with one another or through respiratory droplets being shared from an infected person. It may be possible for a person to become infected if he/she touches a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touches their own mouth, nose, or eyes. There is currently no vaccine to protect against COVID-19. At this point, the best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to the virus that causes it. Stopping transmission (spread) of the virus through everyday practices is the best way to keep people healthy.

Our current actions at this time include:

· Reviewing and updating our emergency operation plans

· Ensuring handwashing strategies include washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

· Utilizing hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol

· Encouraging students and staff who are sick to remain home

· Monitoring student and staff attendance

· Enhancing our routine facility cleaning

· Increasing communications with school staff and our community through:

o School Newsletters

o District Website

o District App

o District Social Media (Facebook and Twitter)

We are continuing to work closely with the Marion County Department of Health, Indiana State Department of Health; and following guidance from the CDC to ensure we have the most updated information. A webpage has been created on our district website that will provide updated information from these three agencies as well as updated communication from the district. The webpage can be found under the Parent Tab or by visiting https://www.warren.k12.in.us/o/msd-of-warren-township/page/covid-19-coronavirus-disease-2019.

Respectfully,

Dr. Tim Hanson

Superintendent
