Poynter Middle School
Notes from the Principal
Spring 2019
Dear Poynter Parents/Guardians,
We are rounding the corner and spring break is right around the corner for us. So many things are going to be happening at Poynter Middle School. We start our construction on our bond work, start state testing, finish Liberty High School forecasting, forecasting for our current 7th grade and start forecasting for our incoming 7th grade.
I am very excited to have spring arrive and be able to get our kids outside in the sun and fresh air.
All the best,
Dr. Pede

8th GRADE PROMOTION CELEBRATION DAY...
To celebrate the end of the middle school journey, we have put together a day of fun just for the eighth graders. This is a prime opportunity for all eighth graders to get together for a day of fun games, food and raffle prizes.
The Poynter team is busy planning a fun day scheduled for Thursday, June 13th. As you know, moving on to high school in the fall is a very special time and we want to ensure their celebration is memorable and fun! An undertaking such as this requires a considerable amount of support. To help make this event fun for our kids we are asking for volunteers and prize donations. Your support would greatly be appreciated and would help ensure the success of our event.
Donations in any form will gladly be accepted. We’ve listed a few suggestions below:

Poynter Bond Construction Update
By the end of March we will start Phase 1 of our Bond Construction. Phase 1 will be earthquake retrofit in our Library, Small Gym, Gymnastics Gym, and Weight Room. This phase is scheduled to end in the month of June. As well as a new gym floor in our small gym.
Phase 2 starts at the end of June and will go through the end of August. Phase 2 includes earthquake retrofit, air conditioning building wide, new/refurbishing heating system, new big gym floor (done in October 2019), new lockers in the 7th grade and 8th grade halls, new sky-tubes for additional lighting in our hallways, new paint, new drinking fountains in each gym, new boys locker room lockers.

Starting in August, 2019, the front doors will automatically lock at 8:45 and all visitors and late students will have to be buzzed in by front office staff. All outside doors will have an alarm that will notify administration if a door is open at any time during the day.
Phase 3 starts at the end of August and will be in the Boxer hall in 7th grade. Students will have classrooms in 14 portable classrooms for 3 months in the start of the year. Construction will include earthquake retrofit, new paint, new sky tubes, and new lockers. Estimated completion will be in November 2019.
Phase 4 starts at the end of November 2019 and will conclude in February 2020. This area will be rooms 1-17 and have new paint, new sky tubes, and earth quake retrofit.
