Kacie's Closet at FHS
Kacie’s Closet, Falls High School’s Formal Dress Drive and “borrowing closet” was created in October of 2021, in memory of 2006 FHS grad, Kacie( Acacia) Dault. Kacie unexpectedly passed away in October of 2018. Her obituary shared that “ she was an empath full of compassion for everyone she met. The impact she made in everyone's lives could not be fully expressed with words, but forever felt and cherished in their hearts.”
In October of 2021, Kacie’s sister, Hailey Dault reached out to Toni Korpi in hopes to continue Kacie’s legacy by graciously donating some of her dresses that she wore to past formals and proms.
This led to the idea to organize and open “Kacie’s Closet at FHS” in Kacie’s memory, for our local girls to come in and try on/borrow dresses as needed. Toni reached out to Karla Line, in hopes that she would be supportive and open to partner up on this project. Karla not only graciously accepted and donated her classroom space to home these dresses and accessories, but also had a brilliant idea to get their daughters, Minnesota Honors Society members, Karsen Korpi and Olivia Line, involved to help lead the memorial project. In October of 2022, they had collected enough dresses to open their doors for try-ons and check-outs.
They do set up “open” days and times during the busier scheduled events, but feel free to reach out to Toni, Karla, Karen, or Olivia anytime to set up dates that work best for you.
FHS students are open to try on dresses during their lunch breaks, before, or after school. They do ask that upon borrowing and signing out a dress in your name, that you add a return date. The goal for the return date is to be about a week after your event, and add a contact number, so that they can keep the closet updated to their best ability.
“We are completely new to this, but want to see a successful and honorable project to carry on in Kacie’s name. We are open to ideas and suggestions you may have to make this project a success.” -Toni Korpi
Dresses can be dropped off by community members in the entryway of Falls High School(in the large red tote) between 8am-4pm or FHS staff can take them directly to Mrs.Lines room. If a drop off or pick up is needed after those hours, contact Toni at 218-244-4741.
They ask that dresses are clean, with no stains, or tears, Minor mending can be fixed and handled by their team.

FHS Offers Introduction to Nursing Courses
By: By Keira de’Bernardeaux
This week I went and interviewed Leah Bacon, the school nurse, to ask her about the nursing class that she offers at the high school. This class is available to take as a junior and senior,The class entails how to become a nursing assistant, with practical and theory based instruction to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. When kids take the class they can expect to come out with personal skills and the opportunity to decide if nursing is really the career for them, this is a class that every nursing student is required to take. If you have any questions stop in and see Mrs.Bacon or the guidance counselors office.

FHS KAPE Visits Classrooms to Spread Awareness
Kape has been going into different grade levels including 4-10th grade to discuss KAPE information along with discussion on different drug trends in Koochiching county. Mrs. Balaski and Mrs. Slatinski have adopted a new curriculum for 4th and 5th graders called “CATCH My Breath” which focuses on educating the dangers and harms of e-cigarette use. Both Mrs. Balaski and Mrs. Slatinski agree that our students need to be educated and informed about different drugs so students can continue to make smart and healthy choices into their adulthood. KAPE is offering a new program for ISD361 where students have support and can be involved in a prevention program to stand up against underage alcohol and tobacco use. KAPE youth students also had the opportunity to come with Mrs. Balaski and Mrs. Slatinski to present on how they are involved in KAPE. One student, Emma Saxton, who came to present to a class said, “The students were actively listening to what was being said, and you could tell that for many students this was new information. Some students were really shocked at the effects these products can have on your health.” Students often feel more of an impact when they hear from other students how they are involved, and it makes it easier for them to relate to what is being said. KAPE has been continuing to see a rise in students wanting to be involved in KAPE which is a positive sign for the students at Falls High School.
