The FAST Flyer

One of the unique things about FAST is the diversity of our school community. That diversity extends to our students' academic achievements. With that comes very complex scheduling to accommodate our students. Our scheduling team has spent the last few days working to ensure that student schedules align with their needs. This meant moving some classes, adding some classes, and shifting student schedules. We appreciate the patience of our parents and students this week as we made these adjustments. Our teachers have been amazing with their flexibility as things were shifting. Special thanks to Ms. Walker, Dr. Mason, and Ms. Emerson for their efforts to complete this quickly so students can settle into their routine.

All middle school students should receive a copy of their updated schedule on Monday.

As a reminder, students are expected to be in their homeroom by 7:40am each day. Please send all absence excuses to attendance@fastk8.org

As a review - and particularly for our new families - it is critical that you follow carpool procedures and adhere to staff directions. This is for the safety of our staff and students.

• When you pull into the parking lot, you must turn left immediately to enter the carpool queue.

• If there is a staff member directing cars when you pull in, follow their directions - do not just drive past them.

• Once you pull in, please stay to the right of the line. This is the only area of two-way traffic and we don't want you to hit a car that is leaving. It is also important to keep cars moving so we prevent back-ups.

• No one should be parking to drop off students before carpool has concluded (even if it is past 7:40am).

• Please do not leave space between you and the car in front of you. We must maximize the number of cars in each area to prevent back up on Crabapple Rd.

• Left turns are not permitted out of the parking lot during carpool.

• Do not block intersections around the school. These areas have been painted by the city with a large X in the road.

• Classes begin at 7:40am. Please plan to arrive on campus with enough time to navigate the carpool line so your student can get to class on time. Our staff needs to get to class too!

• Students arriving after 7:40am will be marked tardy. If your student arrives after 8am, you will need to sign them in at the front office.

• Please do not speed on campus. We have a one way flow of traffic for safety.

We are almost ready to start our FAST pass lane! We wanted to get through at least the first week to allow everyone a chance to acclimate to the new school year. Carpool as been flowing very well in both the morning and afternoon so we will be issuing FAST passes to those who have requested them this week. They will go home with students in a few days and we will let you know when you can use them.

We all know carpool can get busy at FAST. One of the best things we can do to help minimize the volume of cars going through the line is for families to carpool whenever they can. If you are looking for a family to carpool with, please consider adding your information to the Carpool Connections list. By adding your information to the list, you will get access to the full list of families who are trying to coordinate a carpool.
