Essential 6, Bullet 3: The Writing Process
Understanding the Writing Process
So how does a writer compose text? One way to understand the writing process is to think of it as a flexible process rather than a linear one. The IES Practice Guide for Writing suggests that writers should learn to move easily back and forth between components of the writing process, often altering their plans and revising their text along the way. Components of the writing process include planning, drafting, sharing, evaluating, revising, and editing. Publishing may be added to share a final product. See an excerpt from the Practice Guide below to read more about each step of the writing process.
