Toys for Tots Collection
Seventh Grade Service Project
The 7th grade service project is underway! The 7th graders are collecting new socks, new underwear (adult and children’s sizes) and new or gently used sweatpants and sweatshirts for PADS of Lake County. Additionally, they are competing in a Penny War with their IE classes. This involves collecting as many pennies as possible because those are positive points and others will be dropping silver coins and paper money into the jars as they are negative points. The class that is nearest a positive number will win the coveted “Piggy Bank” trophy. Every year the students support those who are in need and often set records with their collections. Be sure to support their efforts between now and December 21, 2021.

Thank You, PTO!
What a wonderful winter wonderland the PTO created on Saturday with the first ever OUTSIDE Winter Market! From my vantage point, helping to serve coffee and hot chocolate, it looked like a good time was had by all who attended. It was a happy surprise to have Stan’s truck sell all their donuts. Because we sold out of hot chocolate (Thank You, Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts), we even had a few moms head home to scavenge their cupboards for extra hot cocoa mix. Thank you for the helping hands!

PTO News
Winter Market Was A Blast!
Saturday was a beautiful day for eating donuts and shopping with the OGS community! We appreciate all the advance donut orders and were impressed you sold out the Stan’s truck on site! Thank you also to everyone who came out and shopped at the Secret Shopping Village and with the vendors.
The event wouldn’t have been a success without the help of all the students and adults who donated their time. Special thanks to AnneRose Poor, Becky Ketterhagen and Shellie Fahy for helping to coordinate all the details.
The PTO would also like to thank the Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts on Buckley for donating the coffee and hot cocoa and Stan’s Donuts for donating a portion of sales. A financial summary for the event will be shared at the January 12 PTO meeting.
Tech Savvy? Help The PTO From Home
The PTO is considering an online platform that would allow us to share an events calendar, have an online directory, manage volunteer sign-ups and communicate with parents. We are looking for a team of 8-10 parent volunteers to help us “test drive” the system so we feel confident before we commit to the platform. Please email PTO@ogschool.org if you’re able to help.
Show FMSC Some LOVE in February
The next Community Gives Back event will be a family affair at Feed My Starving Children. We have reserved a variety of dates and time slots with the hopes of meeting varying scheduling needs. There are approximately 200 spots over 3 days and we would love to fill them all! There is an option to provide a monetary donation to FMSC when you volunteer, but it is not required to participate. Please use the following codes to register your families on the FMSC website. Final registrations are required by February 1st. Note: children under age 5 are not allowed to participate for safety reasons and masks must be worn in the facility at all times.
- Thursday, February 10th 4:30-6:15pm use code 738VYE
- Saturday, February 12th 7:00-8:45pm use code WXW9YX
- Thursday, February 14th 7:00-8:45pm use code KLDN72

Band News
Symphonic/Concert Band: Due to the Jazz Concert next Thursday (12/16), we will not have “regular” band rehearsal on Wednesday (12/15) or Thursday (12/16) - they will be Jazz Band rehearsals. Tuesday’s rehearsal will go on as normally scheduled.
All Symphonic and Concert Band students will have an opportunity to prepare and perform solo or small ensemble music in our annual Solo/Ensemble Festival hosted here at Oak Grove. Students who opt into this performance will get a more formal setting to perform and receive feedback from an adjudicator. More details about this March performance will be coming out via email within the next couple weeks.
Jazz Band: As previously mentioned, we will be adding an extra jazz rehearsal on Wednesday (12/16) and moving Friday’s scheduled rehearsal to Thursday (12/16). There will be no rehearsal on Friday 12/17 due to the Jazz Concert on Thursday night.
Jazz in the Gym is our Jazz Band concert starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Junior High Gym on Thursday, December 16th. Come check out all the hard work the Jazz Band has been doing over the past couple months.
Beginning Band: Students are continuing their work on page 8. Please encourage students to get at least 15-20 minutes of at-home practice with the online version of our text to help solidify concepts we are working on in class. If students are still struggling to get on, please email Mr. Frankowski for assistance.
