HELPING YOUR TEEN SUCCEED IN HIGH SCHOOL: From study habits to social media, they need your support
High school can be one of the most exciting times in a young person’s life, but also one of the most stressful. The number of new academic concepts, extracurricular activities and social pressures they face can be overwhelming. High school students whose parents remain engaged in their lives and supportive of their achievements have a higher likelihood of success. Your teen may not always make this easy. But knowing you’re there is critical to their self-confidence and ability to cope with challenges. They also need your help developing good study habits and time-management skills, planning for college, apprenticeship and career, and staying healthy. Read more in the guide below.

Caregiver Tip: How to Limit Screen Time on a Phone
Crockett has a collective commitment that cell phones should be put away during instructional time. Here are the two biggest reasons:
- Distraction: One of the most common concerns is that cell phones can be a significant distraction for students. Notifications, texting, playing games, and social media can divert students' attention away from the lesson, impairing their ability to focus on the material being taught.
Academic performance: Research has shown that students who use their cell phones during class tend to have lower academic performance. The use of cell phones can disrupt the learning process and impede the absorption of information.
You can help by programming limits on screen time so your child isn't as tempted to use their phone during class and can focus more on learning. Below are links for doing this, but a quick google search will help you figure it out on other phones as well.
Coats for Kids
As we approach cooler temperatures, the Coats for Kids team is gearing up to partner with Central Texas Schools to ensure all kids in need of a warm winter coat receive one.
Coats for Kids is an annual, citywide coat drive held within the Central Texas community from November 13 - December 6, 2023. Warm winter coats are collected across the Austin community. Coats are then dry-cleaned and brought to The Junior League of Austin Community Impact Center where they are sorted by size. Volunteers from the community pick out coats from the Coats for Kids inventory that best match coat requests made by families in the Central Texas community.
Students, 18 years of age or younger, from your child’s school are eligible to receive a warm winter coat from Coats for Kids. If your child needs a warm winter coat, you may request one by scanning the below QR code or by following the link directly to the Coat Request Form
An adult must complete the digital Coat Request Form on behalf of each child in need of a coat. The digital Coat Request Form may be submitted between October 16 and November 3, 2023. Only one coat request form may be submitted for each child.

One Million Minutes Reading Challenge
Crockett won the "One Million Minutes Reading Challenge" for AISD high schools last year and we're looking to hold onto the title. What that means is we need all students to step up their reading habits both at school AND at home! Teachers will be reminding them to log the minutes they read in the classroom, we need families to encourage students to read at home and log their minutes using the link or QR code below. Thank you for helping your child form lifelong reading habits!
UberEats, DoorDash or any other delivery services to Campus are NOT ALLOWED. Thank you for your cooperation as we strive to keep our campus safe.
