AVA Family Update

I hope everyone had a chance to breathe and enjoy family and friends over break, and your new year is off to a good start.

I have a few quick notes for you this week.

1. The schedule for next week is below.

2. Parent conferences are January 18th from 6-8 PM. We will send out information next week about how parents can set up a zoom conference with teachers. Ms. Ng and I will also be available.

3. You may have received notice from the District regarding a change in how you are alerted to student absences. This does not apply to us. We will still notify through email until further notice.

4. We have Science MCAS retests coming up on February 1 and 2.

5. Finally, we will begin scheduling for next year shortly. We won't be on the same time table as the High School, but those students committed to returning in person next year will need to make AHS class requests in the next few weeks. Those who decide to come back to in person after March 15 will not have as good a chance to get the classes they wish as those who fill out their requests at the same time as the in person high school students. More details will follow.

Naviance for Grades 9-11

As we reach the halfway point of the school year, students should be reflecting on the results of their Career survey and completing their first/only Naviance journal entry. Please remember that not completing these Naviance assignments on time will affect whether a student passes AVA Advisory or not. Ms Nellie plans to meet with students individually during Advisory starting around the end of T2 about their survey results and reflections, so students, please do not delay and reach out to Ms Nellie asap if you need support.

Seniors

MassTransfer program - For students looking to complete a college degree, consider the A2B MassTransfer program! You start at a MA community college, earn enough credits towards a 2-year degree, and then transfer all those credits to any UMass or State University, including Mass College of Art, Salem State, etc. Earning at least a 3.0 GPA in the community college phase will earn students a discount on tuition at the MA public 4-year school, saving you and your family even more on college costs!
