A Note From Your PSO
We made it…Spring Break 2023!! Do you remember Spring Break 2020?? Who could forget!!
It has been so much fun seeing Mary Woodward Eagles and their families back (in person) to support our school!! We continue to have an amazing turnout for each and every event. We packed the gym for movie night and the science fair and our dine-out at McDonalds was a hit! Our students have been enjoying field trips again, monthly Art Lit projects and putting on their annual music concerts. These events bring so much joy to our Mary Woodward community!
We have several additional events to look forward to as we close out the school year. We look forward to the highly anticipated in person auction at the Lake Oswego Country Club, a Scholastic book fair, a family dance and even a school wide carnival! We appreciate your support and would not be able to host so many wonderful events and educational activities without you! Consider joining us at our next PSO meeting on April 6th @ 8:30AM in the cafeteria. All are welcome!!
PS- Don't forget to buy your Auction tickets before they are gone! This is the PSO's #1 fundraiser and will be so much fun! Purchase Auction Tickets Here!
Join the PSO Board
Last call for anyone interested in joining the PSO Board!
We have a name on the ballot for each position except Volunteer Coordinator. Of course, more than one person can run for each position too, so don't hesitate to speak up if you want to be included. To learn more about the PSO Board positions, please contact Danielle Smart at president@marywoodwardpso.com.
The election will take place at the April PSO meeting, so be sure you're there to vote and meet your incoming PSO Board.
Mary Woodward Eagle Round Up
The Eagle Round Up is one month away! We still have a few tickets left, so it isn't too late for you to join us for a night of fun with other Mary Woodward families and staff. The price will increase after this Friday so purchase today at the discounted price. Link to purchase your ticket to the Mary Woodward Eagle Round Up!
Thanks to all the class basket and art project coordinators! All of the classroom baskets and art projects are amazing. You will not want to miss out on purchasing them.
Stock the Staff Room
This year, we've been asking families to help keep our school staff room stocked with healthy snacks and delicious treats and it has been a great success! Staff are often stopping by to grab a quick snack to fuel them a bit longer.
In April, we are asking 1st grade families to bring in donations to help restock the staff room. Please drop off your donations in the wagon just inside the main doors any time during the month. Popular items include trail mix, granola bars, fresh fruit, yogurt, string cheese, k-cups, seltzer water and diet and regular soda.
Thank you 2nd grade families for all that you brought in during March. Staff enjoyed every bit of it!
In May, we will be asking Kindergarten families to donate.
Dine Out Fundraisers
Our McDonald's fundraiser on March 7th was more popular than ever! We haven't gotten final numbers back yet, but it was BIG! This Tuesday, Panera was busy with Mary Woodward supporters too. Thank you for showing up.
Of course, there aren't any fundraisers during Spring Break but we'll be starting up right away on April 4th with Burgerville! This is a big deal because they haven't participated in fundraisers for a while. Lets show them how Mary Woodward supports our local businesses! Then we have Casa Lola which has been rescheduled for April 27. Let's hope the weather cooperates this time.
April 4: Burgerville on Hwy 99, 5-8p
April 27: Casa Lola, 11a-9:30p
HELP NEEDED!
- The Room Parent Coordinator is responsible for maintaining contact with the Room Parents from each class and tracking each class' party budget. This position is likely to be busiest in May and June.
- The Staff Appreciation Chair is responsible for dreaming up little ways to show Mary Woodward staff how much we love them and tracking the associated budget.
These roles are typically filled by two separate people although one person can do both if they'd like to. If you are interested in either position or want to learn more, please contact Stacey Beckman at volunteers@marywoodwardpso.com.
March PSO Events
Thank you for joining us at Movie Night on March 10. There were so many happy faces in the crowd and the DC League of Super Pets was a hit. A great big thank you to Danielle Smart and all the volunteers who made this possible.
There was also a great turn out for the Science Fair on March 22. Kids worked hard on their projects and were proud to show them off. There were fun interactive stations in the gym including a sand box that showed changing topography and robots from the Tigard High School Robotics Team. Thank you Angie White and Lynde Perkins for pulling this together and thank you to all the parents who helped out!
If you took pictures at either event, don't forget to upload them to TreeRing and maybe they'll be included in the Yearbook. Details on how to upload photos can be found in the Yearbook section below.
Yearbook
We want your photos for the yearbook! We want the yearbook to be from our school community and not just a couple of people. If your photo isn’t used in the yearbook, they might still be used in custom pages for so many other students who want to remember their amazing school year.
If you have taken any school related pictures over the year, please upload them to TreeRing. A step-by-step guide can be found here.
You can download the app at the AppStore or Google Play.
If you don't want to use the app, you can upload your photos here.
Questions? See this post or email the yearbook team at yearbook@marywoodwardpso.com
Lost and Found
Any items that are unclaimed by April 7th will be donated to the Caring Closet.
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)
Our Mary Woodward Battle Bananas went on to compete at Regionals on March 18. Although they didn't win, they represented us well and we are so proud!
We are looking for a volunteer to run OBOB next year. This event is primarily run from November-March, although you could start earlier, if preferred. The OBOB Chair is the main point of contact regarding OBOB activities, helps students register and develop teams and creates the school's battle schedule. Responsibilities can be shared among multiple people too. Anyone interested in learning more about what it takes to be the OBOB Chair can contact Stacey Beckman at volunteers@marywoodwardpso.com.
Spring Book Fair
Our spring Book Fair is approaching! This exciting event is the primary way that we fund the school's library and it always draws a crowd.
Details about the Book Fair will be coming home as it gets closer, but here are the highlights:
- The Book Fair will be in the library April 17-21.
- Students will be able to shop during their recess time.
- Families can shop after school until 3:30p.
We need plenty of volunteers to make this possible. The shifts are short and offered both during and after school hours. Please sign up for any shifts you like here.
National Super Hero Day
Soaring Eagle Volunteer Parking Space
The next drawing will take place on April 2. To get your name in the parking space raffle you can do any of the following:
- volunteer 1 hour in the month -- as recorded in HelpCounter
- attend a PSO meeting
- chair a committee
Completing any of these multiple times means more tickets in the raffle. So if you volunteer 5 hours in the month, come to the PSO meeting and chair a committee, you will get 7 tickets in the raffle. If you're unsure how to update your hours in HelpCounter, please refer to Recording Volunteer Hours here.
Simple Ways to Give Back
Bottle Drop: To make a donation via the Bottle Drop, all you have to do is pick up a blue bag or two from the office, fill it with redeemable cans and bottles and return it to the Bottle Drop station at 14411 SW Pacific Hwy, Tigard. Every 10 cents counts!
Box Tops: Box Tops have gone completely digital. Instead of collecting those little rectangles, now you can submit copies of your receipt and any earnings are awarded to the PSO automatically. The easiest way to do this is to download the Box Top app and use your phone to photograph your receipts.
