Mountain View Summer Update
July 24, 2020
Announcements & Updates
- Established specific grade-level entry and exit doors.
- Purchased signage for doors and hallways reminding all members of the community to wash hands frequently and practice social distancing.
- Arranged classrooms to allow for distancing and assigned student desks/tables.
- Created a schedule which continues to provide high-quality instruction in Core classes and diverse Related Arts offerings while keeping students in the same cohort and classroom.
- Purchasing of additional technology resources and upgrades to our current platforms, such as Go Guardian, to enhance both virtual and in-person instruction.
- Frequently asked questions:
- Student cohorts: Mountain View students will be divided alphabetically by last name. The "Blue" cohort will contain students A-L; the "Gold" is M-Z. In preparation for the first day of school, the Blue cohort will attend in the morning, and the Gold cohort will attend in the afternoon. These cohorts will remain intact regardless of schedule so long as the student population is split.
- Virtual option: Parents/students have the option to attend school on an all-virtual basis. If you are not planning on sending your child back to school in person, please contact Mrs. Toth (toth@mendhamboroschools.org) as soon as possible, and no later than July 31.
- School supplies: As the opening of school approaches, your child's grade-level team leader will communicate regarding supplies that must come back and forth each day and those that can stay at home. Note that students will not have access to lockers; a backpack is recommended.
- Fall sports: The district is still waiting for guidance regarding middle school athletics. Please click here for eligibility criteria if/when sports become available.
- Schedule release: The tentative date for the release of student schedules is Friday, August 14. As always, in order to gain access to your child's schedule, you will need to complete various forms and acknowledge district and school policies. Specific details are forthcoming.
- Plan for after the "soft opening" (8/26 - 9/11): The District's preferred second phase of our plan would be to return all students back as early as September 14, 2020, following CDC and NJDOE guidance that is in place at that time.
- The Mendham Borough Home & School Association is an important part of our schools. They have supported district initiatives with technology, projects such as murals in both schools, and funds for student activities like our cultural arts assemblies. The support of the HSA starts with joining. Your involvement can grow from there - from supporting a committee to leading one! Consider joining the HSA for the 2020-21 school year by completing this form. For questions or to find out more about how to get involved, please contact Co-president Mary Beley
