Hispanic Heritage Assembly
We will have an assembly that will include a visiting dance troupe from the Cultural Dance Center located in Silver Spring, MD.
Cultural Dance Center is a center for training in international folk dance, physical fitness and Latin rhythms , where they offer the opportunity to develop skills in the area of dance thereof as may be the case , ensuring a quality education that will allow each of their participants to get different benefits. Their belief is that learning to dance is to have the technique, balance, rhythmic movement and subtlety of one's body.
The assembly will also include a brief moment in which Frank Oliva, a counselor who is of Latin American heritage, will share his experience growing up as a Hispanic American in the United States. He will provide encouraging words of the importance of accepting and affirming one's cultural background and accepting the diversity of others' background. Please read the attached for more information about our guests for the assembly.
Maryland Department of the Environment Event
America Recycles Day (ARD) is a national event (November 15th) that promotes recycling, source reduction and buying products made from recycled materials as objectives to a more sustainable society. In celebration of ARD, MDE has created the “Rethink Recycling” sculpture contest and judging ceremony to display students’ creativity and promote recycling. The sculpture contest and judging ceremony is a great opportunity for celebrating the efforts of student artists, for media exposure and for promoting waste prevention to the general public. The sculpture contest challenges students to innovatively and artistically use recycled materials as a solution to waste reduction.
As a Certified Maryland State Green School, CMIT North Art Club is collecting RECYCLED Materials (i.e newspapers, plastic bottles, bottle caps, paper towel holders, magazines...) to participate in Maryland's Recycled Sculpture Contest. Please drop ALL donations off to the front office.

MESSAGE FROM THE NURSE
Good day CMIT families,
As the temperatures begin to cool off, there is the concern of flu and other respiratory illnesses such as RSV infections (respiratory syncytial virus, etc) as more people will be gathering indoors.
When to keep your child home:
A cold or COVID-like illness, in the early contagious stages (frequent sneezing, coughing, nose stuffed up, nose constantly running, child feels ill )
A temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher. Students should not return to school until their temperature is normal for 24 hours without fever reducing medications (Tylenol, Motrin etc.)
Vomiting or diarrhea. Students should not return to school for 24 hours after the last episode.
Large undiagnosed rash.
Infections such as strep throat, conjunctivitis, ringworm, or impetigo, until they have been on prescribed treatment medication for 24 hours
A yearly flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine/booster are an important step in protecting your family against illness. Contact your student’s pediatrician or visit your local pharmacy for an appointment.
Prevention: Preventing the spread of disease is a community wide effort and a priority everyday. The most cost effective way to stop the spread of germs is to wash our hands for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap.
Our students gain the most of their education by keeping healthy, in class and ready to learn every day. Together we can achieve this!
Sincerely,
School Nurse

Biology Class
Hello CMIT!
This week in biology class, students had their lesson through virtual reality goggles! Biology students in both Ms. Gonzalez and Mr. Marshall's classes had the opportunity to learn about the different types of chemical bonds that interact within living systems to allow us to function every single day. What a fun way to learn about science!
