8 PILLARS OF SUCCESS
Bobo's Fundraiser
From Ms. Raeker
We have some fun activities planned for this month! I will be talking to the students about personal safety and health. At the end of the month, we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week which is a nationwide drug awareness and prevention program. See the attached flyer for information on our school theme days. We will also have a visitor from the Children’s Advocacy Center to present the Kid’s Rights program which discusses child abuse. I will be sending home an opt-out letter before the program for those who do not wish for their students to attend.
Feel free to reach out by emailing sraeker@mvr3.k12.mo.us or call 636-271-1444 and ask for Ms. Raeker.
From Nurse Jenny
The fall brings colder outdoor air, seasonal allergies, and cold viruses, which means runny noses and coughs.
It can be difficult to distinguish between what is an allergy, and what could be COVID-19, flu, or cold symptoms.
Here are suggestions to navigate through this time of year -
If your student has known seasonal allergies, prevention of symptoms is possible when starting allergy medication in a timely manner.
If your student has COVID symptoms, please test them at home to ensure they do not attend school and spread the virus to others. If you need test kits, please contact the nurse.
The flu typically is characterized by sudden onset of chills, body aches, fever, and
respiratory symptoms.
Please review handwashing with your student. Remember to cut nails frequently as most bacteria is under fingernails.
Please review coughing techniques with your student; coughing/sneezing into your elbow helps prevent the spread of germs.
MUSIC
First and second grades are working on a holiday revue to be performed in December. The concerts will be moving back to evening time slots. More information to follow as the date approaches. If the students would like to practice on their own the songs are posted on their Google Classroom pages. Third and fourth grade will have a concert in the spring and kindergarten will have graduation.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me through email at rfenelon@mvr3.k12.mo.us or through the ClassDojo Messenger.
Art
Greetings from Nike’s Art Studio! We have been busy creating and getting ready for our art show at First State Community Bank in October. Nike student work will be available to view starting October 9 to October 31.
Next up we will continue our studies with color mixing and the color wheel. With this, we will be painting often. I offer paint shirts, however it is helpful if students do not wear their best clothes on days they have art class as accidents do happen.
Do you have any paper or foam egg cartons you can donate? If so, please send them to school with your artist.
Thank you for sharing your artist with me!
Library
The fall book fair will be October 9th - October 13th. The book fair is with a different company - Literati. You can purchase gift cards for your child or for your child's teacher. Literati also has a monthly book club where you can sign your child up to start to receive book boxes. Every month you get five books and you can decide how many you want to keep and send the books back. To get more information about setting up gift cards or the book club, you can visit their website at efairs.literati.com.
During the book fair we will have two family events. On October 10th, the book fair will be open for Grandparents. Please return your RSVP form so we can plan for the event. The Grandparent Book Fair/Bingo event will have a limit of 200 guests. We will also have a parent breakfast on October 12th from 8:00 - 9:00 am. Please return your RSVP for that event by October 6th. Students who attend the breakfast will go through the regular breakfast line and their account will be charged for breakfast. Parents can get some "grab and go" snacks and drinks.
Thank you for supporting the book fair! The book fair helps the library add new books to our library collection.
PE
Your students have been working hard in PE! 4th-2nd grades just got finished with their soccer units and Pre-K-1st just finished up their throwing units. The older grades are going to be moving into their football unit, which focuses around throwing and catching skills. The youngers will be starting their kicking unit. If you could please help your child remember what days they have PE and what kind of clothes they should wear on those days it would be very helpful.
Have a great October!
Literacy
We practice reading skills daily focusing on the 5 components of reading. It is so important to read at home for 20 minutes a day. At the end of each month, we will have a celebration for students who receive Title 1 services and are completing their daily reading. Below you will find some statistics about why reading 20 minutes each day is SO important!
