Message from Principal Westberg
Four big items for you in this message:
1) THANK YOU to our incredible PTC, Auction Chairpeople, Sponsors, Donors, Staff, and Auction Supporters and Attendees for such a fun event! It was really fun and your generosity was heartwarming and will support Spanish, IB trainings, ongoing technology upgrades and updates, classroom books and extra materials, the art docent program, the library, and other general school and playground supplies. THANK YOU!
2) Like cell phones, smart watches are not permitted to be worn while students are on campus. Students wearing them will be asked to put them in their backpacks during the school day. Essential communication between parents and students can take place using the phone in our office. This expectation, found within our school handbook, aligns with our Board Policy 5131 that states "Grades K-12 students are allowed to have cell phones and other electronic signaling devices in their possession while at school. However, cell phones and other electronic signaling devices must be off during school hours, shall not be visible and shall not be used during school hours. The cell phone may be used if it is for a supervised school activity." I do appreciate your attention to this matter.
3) Only for 3rd-6th graders: Starting Thursday, April 14, your child will be showcasing their hard work, growth, and learning this year in English-Language Arts and Math, on the state test, AKA the CAASPP, AKA the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress. In order to prevent test exhaustion and maximize our students’ mental attention and energy, we will only be spacing our test sessions to land on 4/13, 4/20, 4/26, 4/27. 5th graders will also take the CST (California Science Test) on 5/10. Please mark these dates on your calendar and do your best to send your child to school with a fully belly and full night of sleep. Did you know that chewing gum or sucking on peppermints has a positive impact on attention, focus, stress reduction? We would appreciate and are happily accepting donations of sugar-free gum and hard peppermint candies to distribute to students during testing sessions.
4) Thank you for your support throughout the year and always. I wish each and every Sierra community member a wonderful spring break! Enjoy your families and friends over the break and the special, precious time with your beautiful children. They will grow up fast!
Warmly,
Amy Westberg
