Today's Inclement Weather Closure
Thank you for understanding the decision to dismiss students at 11:00 today. It’s very difficult to know what the weather will actually look like, but we will always put the safety of our students, families and staff first. It’s much harder to wait and make the call to dismiss students early when school is in session and parents don’t have a chance to arrange child care if needed. It’s never an easy call to have to make, but again, thank you for your grace and understanding.
Around the School Spotlight
Our 5th graders had a great time drumming this week during music! They showed focus and skill…maybe you want to buy some drums for your kids at home. : )
Join us for Family Bingo Night!
Our PAC is hosting a Bingo Night next week! Join us for bingo, dinner and community building. Please note that this is not a drop off event; students must attend with a parent/adult. Thank you for understanding!
2024 Early Learning Fair - January 20, 2024
Come spend some time with us exploring the many child care, enrichment and pre-school options available in Sherwood! The fair will be held at the Sherwood School District Office Multi Purpose room, 9am - 11am. For more information, see the flyer.
Free Dental Screenings for Children Age Seven and Younger
Throughout the month of February, local dentist Dr. JJ Bittner of Bittner Dentistry for Kids will be giving free dental screenings at each elementary school. Dental screenings at Hawks View will be held on Friday, February 9. This is a screening only and no treatment will be given. This is for children age seven or younger who have not been to a dentist.
You may already have turned in a form to our school to say that your child has been to a dentist, or that the screening is against your family's beliefs. If so, your child will not be screened. If your child is screened, results will be sent to you in backpack mail and also go into the student's file at their school. If you wish to opt-out of the screening, please contact our office.
For more information about the screening, you can contact our district's Health Services Department at 503-825-5093. Good dental care contributes to the overall good health of our students!
Free Vision Screening for All Elementary Students
Sherwood School District will be be hosting free vision screenings for all elementary students. Vision screenings at Hawks View will be held on Tuesday, February 13. The testing will be done by Lions Club with helpers using the SPOT screening devices. The test is painless, is done from a distance, and does not touch your child's eyes or face.
Results will come to us in about a week. Most students pass the exam. Due to the amount of paperwork, we will only send home "not passing" results to parents/guardians in student backpack mail. If you want a copy of "passing" results, please contact our Health Services Department.
If you do not want your child to have the vision screening (opt-out) please contact our office. If you have any questions about the vision screening, please call Health Services at 503-825-5093.
Financial assistance may be available if your student needs an eye exam and/or glasses.
