A national project of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation.
You can conduct the program with as few as two students entering into the school/organization competition portion of the program. You may conduct the program virtually or in person. Details are at https://www.poetryoutloud.org/teachers-organizers/organize-a-contest/.
We ask that you report your schoolโs winner to us by December 15, 2022. We expect to hold the state finals in Austin in late February 2023. The national finals will be conducted in Washington, DC, May 8-10, 2023. Lesson plans, organizer tools, and guidelines are online at https://www.poetryoutloud.org/teachers-organizers/ to help you get started. And best of all, the rich, wide-ranging anthology of poems is at https://www.poetryoutloud.org/search/?type=poem and will be finalized by September 1.
Please let us know if youโre interested in participating in the program this year by sending an e-mail to poetryoutloud@arts.texas.gov that provides your full name, school name, and mailing address and weโll follow up as we have updates and materials (promotional posters and calendars for your classroom) to send out. Weโd also welcome your help in getting out the word about this great, free program, so please forward this e-mail to your colleagues at other high schools (or organizations serving high school students) in Texas who might be interested in the program. We really hope your school will join us this year.
If you have any questions about conducting the program at your school or organization, please let us know!
Sincerely,
Matrex Kilgore and Anina Moore, Texas Poetry Out Loud coordinators
