January 2024
PES is a school of hope, happiness, and high expectations for all!
Welcome Back
We are looking forward to seeing our students return to school on Wednesday, January 3rd. We hope everyone has had an opportunity to rest and spend time with those you love.
PES has several activities going on this month so please be sure to mark your calendars using the Upcoming Events section at the bottom of this newsletter.
Cold Weather and Clothing
During these colder months, please make sure that your child brings a coat or jacket to school each day to wear at recess. Please label the coat or jacket with your child's name on the inside. All jackets that are left outside each day will be taken to the lost and found in the cafeteria, where they will be held until the end of the month. At the end of each month, all unclaimed items will be donated to the Dream Center.
All Pro Dad
We are excited to hold our first All Pro Dad meeting of the year. Jut Owens from Landmark Baptist Church will be our host and speaker. This will be held in the Cafeteria on Thursday, January 25th from 6:45-7:15am. Breakfast will be provided. This is an opportunity for a student to come with an adult (dad/mom/grandparent/guardian) and hear a message about Dependability. Please RSVP on the Pickens All Pro Dad page.
Inclement Weather/eLearning Days
When schools close for inclement weather in Pickens County, students will have an eLearning Day to complete schoolwork online and the canceled school day does not have to be made up!
- When SDPC has an eLearning Day, students will have five days to complete assignments for the day. For students in grades K5-12, in which all students have school-issued Chromebooks, the work can be completed on their device. Students in earlier grades may also be given a list of traditional assignments to complete within five days.
- If assignments are not completed within five days, the student will be marked absent.
- As inclement weather approaches, students should prepare by making sure their Chromebooks are charged in case of power outages.
- Teachers will have assignments available and will hold office hours which they will communicate to their students and parents directly.
- For more detailed information, please visit our eLearning Day website.
If school is canceled due to inclement weather, SDPC will communicate the closure through phone calls, text messages (for parents who opt in), email, our website, social media posts, and news media. Our goal is always to announce a closure as early as possible and never later than 6:30 a.m. on the day of the cancellation.
