Announcements & Updates

- Administration has seen an increase in the number of students with cell phones or other electronic communication devices on their person during the school day. Per BOE policy 5516, "Cell phones and other electronic communication devices must be deactivated and stored in lockers during the school day and during school activities before and after school." Consequences for violating this policy include parent pick-up of the device, detention, and for habitual offenses, in-school suspension. Administration asks parents to please reinforce this expectation with their child and remind him/her that should they need to reach a parent/guardian during the school day, they are welcome to use the phone in the Main office. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.


- Marking period 1 report cards will be released to the Parent Portal on November 11 at 3:15 p.m. Students in grades 6-8 achieving a 92% or above across all courses (Related Arts included) will be awarded Principal's Honor Roll. Students in grades 6-8 who achieve a 90% or above in their core classes (Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science) will earn Honor Roll. Fifth graders are not eligible at this time.


- 5th grade parents: If you have not already done so, please review the communication from Mrs. Toth, emailed earlier today, re: report cards.


- A reminder that before-school Band, Chorus, and Orchestra winter concert rehearsals start next week. Please refer to the Mountain View website calendar and/or the communication from Mrs. Carpenter and Mr. McMurray for additional information.


- The next meeting of the Mountain View Parent Council is November 18. Topics for discussion can be sent to your grade-level representatives or to Mrs. Toth. For more information on the Parent Council, including meeting minutes, click here.

A note from Ms. Walsh

Happy Wednesday and long weekend Mountain View! As we approach the long weekend and await the arrival of report cards please take the time to check in with your child regarding their first marking period. Encourage them to share with you their highs and lows, and to reach out to me if they need any support as the second marking period gets underway.

Due to the long weekend, students may have more free time than usual, they may spend more time outdoors with friends, more time with family, and more time on devices or watching television. I had previously shared with you a resource that helps to gauge whether or not television shows and movies are appropriate for certain ages, but I also wanted to share with you an article regarding protecting kids from ‘overly scary’ movies and shows. Please check out the article linked here and try out some of the strategies and conversation starters listed at the bottom. Enjoy your weekend!
