The Cub Hub
The weekly newsletter for Bear Creek Elementary.

February 16, 2024
Bear Creek Families,
We had a wonderful 5 days this week. There has been a noticeable upswing in coughing and sneezing on campus. While we know that cedar season will cause many of us discomfort, we do not want to ignore the possibility of sharing viruses. Today on morning announcements, I reminded students about coughing into their elbows and frequent handwashing. We even spoke about that minimizing touching our faces can help with preventing illness. Our custodial staff has increased the number of times they are disinfecting door handles and handrails! Our custodians are the true heroes of keeping us healthy.
Through the Cub Hub, my tendency is to promote your children and the wonderful staff. The Raves I have received mean the world to me. While the certificates go onto my bulletin board as a morale boost, I don't put my picture in the Cub Hub. However, I wanted to break from my habit and acknowledge how grateful Mrs. Gibbon and I both feel for being recognized by our community for the Salute nominations below. We truly love Bear Creek. While we do the work for the love of our Cubs, the below accolades mean so much. Thank you for partnering with us!
Enjoy the 3 Day Weekend!

Join us on Tuesday 2/20 at 8am in the Bear Creek Cafeteria for a brief PTA General Membership Meeting followed by a parent presentation by technology expert Dr. Mike Brooks. As our lives become increasingly enmeshed with technology, parents have many legitimate concerns about how all of this time spent on screens is affecting our children. As if we did not have enough to contend with, AI is now throwing a huge curveball into everything. He will discuss the latest research on the effects of screens, why screens have such a grip on us, and strategies to help you and your family use technology in more balanced ways. Dr. Brooks is a licensed psychologist with over 20 years of experience in the greater Austin area. He is a frequent speaker on the topic of parenting and technology use and is the author of Tech Generation: Raising Balanced Kids in a Hyper-Connected World.
Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP for planning purposes: https://bit.ly/BCE-PTAMeeting-RSVP

Bear Creek Elementary, PTA, Equity & Inclusion, and the Cultural Event Planning Committee are excited to welcome our very first multicultural event to campus on Friday, May 17, 2024! This will be an evening where students, staff, and parents come together to celebrate the unique tapestry of cultures through an immersive experience! It's an opportunity for your family to plan and showcase your cultural background / heritage and learn about others' cultural backgrounds / heritages in a way that is meaningful for you and your family. This event will provide opportunities for families, students, and staff to share interactive displays, vibrant performances, cultural food sampling, and a kaleidoscope of activities.
To help us gather everyone's interests, we need your help!

Thank you, PTA, for the Valentine's Day treats for staff. The buntinis were a great hit. Our staff was very appreciative of the gift.
But wait, there was more! PTA provided CAVA for lunch on Friday. We really appreciate this healthy lunch. Having "outside food" is such a wonderful treat. Thank you, again.
