It's been a busy week here at Trollwood with Trollwood Academy, Totally Trollwood Academy, Trollwood Conservatory, the Mainstage Musical, and ArtSpark all going on at once!

Mainstage Musical cast and orchestra rehearsals are cruising along towards the ultimate goal of Singin' in the Rain opening night on July 13! The set is starting to take shape on stage, the costumes are coming along, and the actors and orchestra are learning their parts!

Trollwood Academy and Totally Trollwood Academy are wrapping up their second week and are already look forward to Share Days next Thursday and Friday! Some of our outdoor classes were forced inside due to air quality concerns on Wednesday, but that didn't stop anybody from having a great day anyway.

Trollwood Conservatory kicked off this week for some of our more advanced students with instructor Austin Regan. Regan is a Trollwood alum who has been the associate director for five Broadway musicals, including the currently running production of A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, and has directed numerous productions regionally and across the United States.

The first sessions of ArtSpark held their performances last Friday at Ben Franklin Middle School and the second sessions are set to take the stage this Friday at Carl Ben Eielson Middle School!

Trollwood Student Services Advisor Allison Ziesmer is here to help students deal with whatever challenges they may be facing. Trollwood's mission is to inspire those we serve through the arts to realize their full potential and be a positive influence in the global community. In doing so, we believe in having all of the necessary resources available to our students beyond our arts programming.

Our students in Trollwood Academy and Totally Trollwood Academy are settling in to their classes and really digging in on growing in their chosen areas. With the first week out of the way, they are really finding their groove and gaining confidence in their skills. Trollwood Conservatory, taught by Austin Regan, kicked off this Monday, giving our advanced students a unique experience to learn from a professional who followed the path from Trollwood to Broadway. Do you want to be a part of the magic and work behind the scenes on Singin' in the Rain? We are looking for individuals to join the run crew! Positions include Spotlight Operators, Light Board Operator, and Deck Electricians. Email Lighting Director Cedar Remmen for more information.

We are looking for students to be the technical crew for Singing In The Rain. If you have an interest in Lighting, Sound, Hair & Makeup, or Wardrobe (or want to know what any of this means) please drop by the Living Room on Wednesday, June 21 between noon and 12:30 p.m. and talk with the technical team about your interest. We need many people in all areas and want to have the opportunity to work with you on this show. You can bring your lunch with you!

Trollwood Performing Arts School offers rewarding volunteer opportunities working with positive and fun people to benefit a great cause! There’s a place for everyone at Trollwood! You can volunteer in any area that interests you and no experience is required. We’d love for YOU to join the Trollwood volunteer force. Without our dedicated volunteers, Trollwood would not be able to have such a positive impact on the youth of our region.

The “Greatest Movie Musical of All Time” is faithfully and lovingly adapted by Broadway legends, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, from their original award-winning screenplay in Singin’ in the Rain. Each unforgettable scene, song, and dance is accounted for, including the show-stopping title number, complete with an onstage rainstorm! Hilarious situations, snappy dialogue and a hit-parade score of Hollywood standards make Singin’ in the Rain the perfect entertainment for any fan of the golden age of movie musicals. Singin’ in the Rain has all the makings of a Tinseltown tabloid headline – the starlet, the leading man and a love affair that could change lives and make or break careers! In silent movies, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a hot item but, behind the scenes, things aren’t always as they appear on the big screen! Meanwhile, Lina’s squeaky voice might be the end of her career in “talking pictures” without the help of a talented young actress to do the talking and singing for her.

It was a busy week for the Mainstage Musical technical team this week and things are really starting to take shape in the Bluestem Amphitheater! The Hollywood sign is going up on the stage and lighting and sound equipment is getting installed. The staff, students, and volunteers have been hard at work getting everything ready for Singin' in the Rain to open July 13!

Come see the fruits of Trollwood Performing Arts School's talented students' hard work this summer at Sun Celebration on June 28! Whether their talent is acting, filmmaking, dancing, or singing, all of our students have worked hard this summer to develop and grow in those skills. At Sun Celebration, the community is invited to walk with us through a typical day at Trollwood. Witness performances and demonstrations from our summer classes in an open house style environment to get a firsthand glimpse at what Trollwood is all about and see what our students have learned! And help us celebrate the senior class of 2023, be entertained by the Musical Theatre Conservatory, and get a sneak preview of Singin' in the Rain in a grand finale at the Bluestem Amphitheater.

Sun Celebration is fun for the whole family with food, games, and activities in addition to the performances and demonstrations.

Come early and come hungry! The Family Fundraising Picnic begins at 5 p.m. and features will shredded BBQ pork sandwiches, macaroni salad, chips, chocolate chip cookie, and a drink. Attendance at Sun Celebration is free, but you need a meal ticket to eat at the picnic. Meal tickets are available online now at the link below!

The first group of Grades K-2 ArtSpark students worked hard all week to perfect their show Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise and got to show off that hard work during their performance on Friday, June 9 at Ben Franklin Middle School! The show was directed by Shanara Lassig and April Aamold with assistant Eve Hanson. Check out the photos below!
