Welcome to October and happy fall. The cool weather is definitely in the air. The first full month of the 2023-2024 is behind us and it was a very busy one. Homecoming was a huge success, FOH kicked off their first TOT of the year, and our 2023 Stand Up for Schools Comedy Show is on 10/21. We hope you have purchased your tickets. It is going to be a great event and there are some amazing raffle baskets, as well as our 50/50 split the pot.

About FOH/FOH Mission:

Friends of Hancock (FOH) shall exist for the purpose of broadening the involvement of students, student families, and John Hancock College Preparatory High School, through support of all school sports teams and clubs. Friends of Hancock works to achieve this, through active participation of as many students, parents, and supporters as possible in fundraising activities. Friends of Hancock works closely with the principal and administration of John Hancock College Preparatory High School to determine what the financial needs are of the various sports teams, clubs, and student activities that are not covered by the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Friends of Hancock will then provide financial assistance by purchasing equipment, items, or fund a project that will benefit the sports teams, clubs, and student activities of John Hancock College Preparatory High School.

The FOH Leadership Team/Executive Board and the FOH Committees(list below) are made up of an all volunteer group of parents and faculty. We are very thankful for their commitment to our organization and thank them for the numerous hours of work they put in to make FOH run smoothly!

We always welcome new parents and faculty to become more involved with FOH in a variety of ways from helping on a committee or volunteering at events. We welcome your input and new ideas and invite you to come learn more about FOH. We would love for you to be a part of this fun, positive, and very active parent group at Hancock. Please do not stop to drop off students on West 65th Street; this is a no stopping/no standing zone. Instead, we ask that you turn into the Wintrust parking so students can exit safely, and cross at the red light. You are also welcome to drop students off in the front of the building.

One of the highlights of Homecoming week was the name reveal of the Hancock mascot during the pep rally.

Thank you for your support during our past 2 FOH event. Here are the results:

- Back to School Event: FOH raised $627.00

- Portillo's TOT: FOH raised $286.00

So far this year, FOH has approved:

- $40.00 Grant to the World Language Department

- Provided 16 cases of water for Homecoming

FOH would also like to shout out the entire Hancock Student Community. Hancock truly has amazing students. Throughout the evening, students thanked volunteers for their help. A special shout out to the Student Council Members that stayed to help put decorations together. They also rocked the coat check during Homecoming and had a wonderful system in place. Way to go Eagles!

Thank you to all the parents that volunteered their time to help decorate and chaperone the Homecoming Dance on Friday, September 29th. Your help was greatly appreciated.

A big shout out and thanks to Ms. Serna for organizing and running the College Fair that was recently held at Hancock High School last month. All students are parents were welcomed to attend and Hancock had many take advantage of this opportunity.

The LSC is currently accepting applications for a (1) Parent Representative and (2) Community Representatives.

Serving on the LSC provides a unique opportunity to become engaged in our school community and play an active role in making important decisions affecting our school. LSCs are critical to ensuring positive student outcomes and a dynamic school environment.

There are 3 vacant openings for this current term. Applications can be brought in person at the next scheduled LSC meeting, or emailed to Principal Puentes at vpuentes@cps.edu. Please submit your application by the end of the LSC meeting on November 2nd.
