NEW TERM! NEW START! NEW YOU!
Be your best & stack good days together....the choice is yours....you can do it!
REMINDER: Career internships are a great opportunity for students to discover their interests for their career path after high school. They are also a great opportunity for students to discover what they are great at and what they need to work on when working out in the community. Juniors and Seniors have the option now to add the internship class to their schedule and get out into the community to make these discoveries. Freshman and Sophomores should be thinking about what career fields interest them by taking classes in the different areas of FCS, Agriculture, Computer Science/Technology, and STS courses. Counselors are available to help you plan out and prepare for your future path.

Micheline Hoatson
Hi all I’m Micheline Hoatson and I teach Psychology, Sociology, and World History. This
is my 12 th year here at the high school. Sociology is a term class and just wrapped up
with applying current social issues to the 3 perspectives of Sociology. Students chose a
social issue that interested them and then had a ping pong conversation with the class.
These students had great conversations and learned others perspectives on the issue.
Loved these kids and the respect they have for one another. They also had some fun
and presented different decades during our culture unit. They had to dress in attire of
the decade as they presented. Here are a few of those presentations.
My World History class has been working hard learning about the Revolutions. They
competed with the other World History class on designing a Renaissance Bulletin
Board. Both classes were very competitive and did a great job so both were rewarded
with donuts for the day. Up next for them are the world wars.
Tiffany Negley
My name is Mrs. Negley. I am a Special Education teacher and serve mainly 9th graders this year. Did you know that Adam Lavine and Michael Phelps have ADHD? Cher, Whoopie Goldberg, and Tom Cruise have dyslexia and often struggle with reading and writing. Justin Timberlake has ADD and OCD. Everyone learns a little differently from one another. It's so important to discover how you learn best. Knowing how you learn best helps you identify what tools you need to study and what tools you need to learn new information. My job is to help with that process so students can walk away on the path that leads them in the direction of their career and post-secondary goals.
It isn't too late to learn more about your learning style. You can quickly take the Vark assessment at https://vark-learn.com/. Another good assessment is called CITE learning styles inventory. The link for CITE is https://asutr.edu/sites/default/files/documents/trio/learning_styles.pdf. It is always best to use two informal assessments to make a solid determination. If you need help understanding your results, please get in contact with me. It is all about helping your brain work smarter and not harder.
Sarah Snively
English 10
Hello, I’m Sarah Snively, and I teach English 10. This is my ninth year of classroom instruction and twelfth year in the education field. So far this year, the sophomore students have written personal narratives, honed their writing skills, and read the classic novel, Lord of the Flies. One overarching theme we have reflected on is human behavior. For instance, Are people inherently good or evil? Are we naturally inclined to be altruistic or are we fundamentally selfish? Students will continue to explore these questions with our current unit, which focuses on technology’s impacts on our society, and ultimately, individual’s behavior. Students will show their findings in a unique medium--a podcast. After this unit, we will delve into research with an argumentative essay and will close out the term with book clubs.
Sandra Mejia
Mrs. Mejia here!
I teach Spanish 1, 2, and 3 this semester. We are getting ready for our Day of the Dead celebration by coloring skulls and decorating the 2300’s pod. Students will learn about this Mexican Celebration in the upcoming weeks. Day of the Dead is about celebrating the lives of our loved ones who passed away.
We are also getting ready for our annual Edgar Rene concert. Spanish students from NPHS and other schools attend the concert to learn about hispanic music and culture. Edgar is a singer from Puerto Rico and he is part of the Justo Lamas group. A group from Argentina who goes around the United States promoting the Spanish language. The concert is being held at NPHS PAC and is $15 per Spanish student.
In Spanish 3 we are talking about our shopping experiences and describing clothing.
In Spanish 2 we are talking about our house and chores.
In Spanish 1 we are describing classes and telling where objects are located in the classroom.

National Honor Society
I also have the pleasure of co-sponsoring National Honor Society. This year, we are excited to have a new co-sponsor, Mrs. Kim Boyer. Our leadership team is strong with the following student officers: Jacen Smith, President; Kalee Brosius, Vice President; Bennett Magnuson, Secretary; Jenessa Arnold, Treasurer; and Sierra Cain, Public Relations Officer. We will soon be welcoming our new class of National Honor Society members, as application packets are due October 26 and inductions will tentatively be held November 21.
To be eligible for membership, students must be a junior or senior with a GPA of 3.6 or above. Further, they must demonstrate exemplary character, service, and leadership, which can be demonstrated through school and community activities. At the time of application, potential members are expected to have completed at least 3 school activities, or 2 school activities and 40 hours of community service, or 1 school activity and 80 hours of community service.
Our current members have completed almost 500 hours of community service so far this year. They have also hosted blood drives with the Red Cross, which have garnered 58 units of blood donations.
