King Philip Regional High School
Week of August 21st

Week of October 2, 2023
Principal's Message
Greetings KP Community,
Thursday, October 5th is our King Philip Regional High School Open House. Translators for ASL, Spanish and Portuguese will be available. This email serves as a general reminder for families, as well as, more specific information for families who may not have attended an open house before this year. The evening will begin at 6:00pm with brief, opening remarks from the Principal in the auditorium. During this meeting there is information about expectations for the school and various ways that students and families can involve themselves in all that KPHS has to offer. The meeting will conclude a few minutes before 6:30pm to give everyone time to find their first block classroom. Below is the open house bell schedule with times for each block for parents/guardians to follow. Families can also use their Infinite Campus accounts to see their student’s schedule.
Our schedule for the evening will provide an opportunity for parents/guardians to attend all 7 classes. We will not have parents/guardians attend Homeroom. Each class will last 10 minutes, with a 5 minute passing time in between. During passing there will be student volunteers to provide directions to classrooms. During the class time, educators will go over their classroom expectations, different learning activities throughout the course, and how to contact them to discuss a student's progress. This night tends to move very quickly so please reach out to educators independently if additional discussions regarding students are desired.
Students will complete an open house schedule form in homeroom on Wednesday to bring home to families.
We look forward to seeing everyone this week,
Nicole Bottomley
Principal

National Merit Scholars
The following KPHS students Dean Cardner & Lakshya Jain have been named semi-finalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program!
In addition, Isabella McFarlane, Brady Ricci, Amelia Richter received A Letter of Commendation from KPHS and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their
exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2024 competition for
National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2024 competition by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). "Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."
KP Cares
KP Cares held their annual dog wash on September 23rd! They had a great turnout and raised lots of
money for the Henry Carr Scholarship Fund. Additionally members volunteered at the Boosters
Concession stand during various sporting events. Members also brought in donation items, such as
backpacks, stuffed animals, pajamas, body wash/shampoo, and colored markers for Friends of
Adoption and today, after school, on September 25, members made cards and assembled bags.
Additionally, KP Cares is looking for members to volunteer to run the concession stand during various
sporting events that range from September 19- November 18.
Safety Reminder
This is a reminder to students and families that there is no parking or student drop off/pick up on the side of the building. When students are dropped off in this area they are crossing without looking, which is creating a safety concern. Thank you in advance for keeping our students safe!
