Club Paper is designed to keep students engaged in a fun, low-pressure learning environment while giving the flexibility to select individual classes that match students’ interests and fit within their schedules. This virtual program offers daily live and on-demand classes across several categories, including art, movement, math, science, cooking, language, and more. HF-L BIL is a recreational basketball league sponsored by HF-L Community Programs. The focus is on learning the basics while having fun and getting exercise with friends. Leagues are for 3-4 grade boys, 3-4 grade girls, 5-6 co-ed, 5-6 grade girls, 7-8 co-ed, and 9-12 co-ed. There will be one practice OR game per week from January through mid-March. Questions? Gerry Petersen-Incorvaia Ph.D. is a Solution Tree associate, author, and former superintendent for educational services in Arizona. His work focuses on ensuring all students have access to a guaranteed and viable curriculum.

Dr. Petersen-Incorvaia guides the tight alignment of rigorous curriculum, balanced assessment, and targeted interventions and enrichments. He does this work by ensuring that collaborative teams of teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders engage with this important work.

The Board of Education is seeking committee members to establish an Honorary Naming Committee. This sub-committee will be created and be led by the Board of Education and Policy Committee to be charged with recommending both policy and administration regulation recommendations to the Board of Education for consideration regarding naming district facilities in honor of worthy individuals.

Renowned author and co-teaching expert, Anne Beninghof is scheduled to visit the District on October 13, 2021, and October 14, 2021. Beninghof will be in the District to observe current co-teaching models and provide embedded co-teaching support.

Co-teaching is an instructional approach for reaching the wide range of student needs in today’s inclusive classrooms.

Beninghof is an internationally recognized consultant and trainer with more than 33 years of experience in the field of education. Currently, she co-teaches part-time to design instruction for heterogeneous classrooms. In both her presenting and writing, Beninghof focuses on creative, practical solutions for more effectively including students with diverse learning needs in general education classrooms.

Beninghof has authored several books including Co-Teaching that Works: Structures and Strategies for Maximizing Student Learning, Super Strategies for Everyday Teaching, Specially Designed Instruction: Increasing Success for students with Disabilities, Caffeinated Learning: How to Design and Conduct Rich, Robust Professional Learning, and more.

Beninghof has conducted several Zoom sessions with HF-L staff in the past however this will be the first time she can come to the campus to work directly with teachers in classrooms.

On the September 14, 2021, Board of Education meeting, the board received an update on the District’s partnership with Paper, a digital tutoring service. This service is available to all HF-L students in grades 4-12 and will provide free, unlimited access to virtual tutoring sessions. These sessions are 1:1 and are available 24 hours a day. Students can access this using their ClassLink portal.

Using Paper, students get homework help, writing feedback, and study support on demand. Teachers gain insights into learning gaps. Administrators have visibility into where support is needed.

Mendon Public Library is open M-Th, 9 am - 8 pm. Friday and Saturday, 9 am - 3 pm.

HF-L Youth Lacrosse is offering indoor winter training for ALL interested HF-L students. Training is on Thursday nights, starting November 4th, for boys and girls in grades K-6 from 7 pm-8 pm and grades 7-12 from 8 pm-9 pm at The Athletic Campus on Brighton-Henrietta Town Line Road. Cougar Hoops Registration for the 2021-2022 season is NOW OPEN. We will be registering girls and boys teams at the 3rd-8th grade levels for play in the Monroe and Livingston County travel leagues. Registration will be open until OCTOBER 15th! We need to get an accurate headcount for our teams by that date in order to be able to enter some of these leagues. New York State West Youth Soccer Association (NYSWYSA) is focusing on an initiative to engage children in healthy activities by staging a free day of soccer in the fall.

NYSWYSA will run a free soccer event in Rochester/Webster to introduce the children to soccer in hopes to get them involved in the sport.

The event is completely free, and each participant will receive a gift (small soccer ball, water bottle, drawstring bag).

A Halloween boo is a little gift or treats left anonymously by a friend or neighbor during the Halloween holiday. Last year, the event was started because of the restrictions to trick-or-treat due to COVID-19. This year due to the overwhelming popularity, the community event is BACK! In the first year of the HF-L BOO EVENT, we came together to surprise over 500+ children in our district!
