Parent-Teacher Conferences This Week
Parent-teacher conferences will be a great time for parents and teachers to collaborate together. While our teachers will have lots of info to share, we want to make sure that any questions or concerns YOU might have are also addressed. If you have anything you want to make sure gets discussed, it can be helpful to email your child's teacher ahead of time so that he/she can be sure to address those questions or concerns during the allotted conference time.
Here are some ideas to prepare for the conference and some questions to consider inquiring about:
- Ask your child how she/he feels about school.
- Ask your child if there is anything that he wants you to talk about with his/her teacher.
- Consider preparing a few questions for the conference such as:
- Does my child seem happy at school?
- What are my child's strongest and weakest subjects?
- Does my child complete his/her classwork?
- Does my child participate in class discussions?
- Does my child interact positively with other students?
- What can I do at home to help?
Please remember that there will be no school for students this Thursday and Friday!
PTA Membership Drive Winners
Congratulations to Mrs. Belko's class and Mr. Boyce's class for having the largest percentage of family members from their classes join the PTA this year and winning the contest. They will celebrate with a special popsicle party courtesy of our PTA.
Thanks to everyone who joined PTA this year. Your support and involvement helps make Bernardo the amazing school that it is!
Fall Festival On October 13
Fall Festival Fun For The Parents
In addition to all of the fun for the kids at the Fall Festival, our PTA is excited about our upcoming silent auction which will take place at the Fall Festival. Be sure to check out and bid on some amazing baskets. You may walk away that evening with something amazing! Check out the flyer below for more details.
GATE Testing
All 2nd grade students will participate in GATE testing during the month of November, unless opted out by their parents. In addition to our 2nd graders, parents and teachers of students in grades 3 through 8 who did not previously take the GATE test may recommend students to be tested. To make a request, parents can pick up the Parent Background and Input Form in the front office and return it to school by Friday, October 13. A school team will review requests and determine which 3rd-8th grade students will be eligible to be screened in November.
For more information or to opt your child out of GATE testing, please Click Here to visit our district's GATE web page or contact our Bernardo GATE Testing Coordinator, Crystal Hanel, at crhanel@eusd.org.
Looking for Parents To Serve on Fun Run Committee
Every Spring, the Bernardo PTA has a tradition of running an amazing Fun Run that the kids absolutely love! The past few years, we've contracted with an outside company that has taken a good-sized portion of the profits. This year, we'd like to run the event in-house so that we can retain more of the funds. To do this, we need parent help!
If you would be interested in serving on a committee of parents and staff to plan this event, please email thebernardopta@gmail.com. No experience needed...just a heart to serve.
