Community Update - Week of Aug 28th
Sharing information for the Wootton High School community.
Come to Wootton's Back-to-School Night
12th Grade Parent Meeting
Please join us on Thursday, August 31st prior to Back to School Night at 6:00pm in the auditorium for a 12th grade parent meeting. The counseling department will share the final steps in the college application process. This includes how to make transcript requests and teacher letter of recommendation requests through Naviance to colleges. You will hear a lot of great information and learn more about upcoming events to help your seniors submit their applications by the college deadlines. We can’t wait to see you there!
Wootton High School Spirit Shirt
Celebrate the start of the new school year with a new Wootton tradition - your Wootton High School Spirit Shirt! In the past just seniors tie-dyed their class shirt, but now all grades and staff will tie-dye together. There are shirts for seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshmen, and staff. Each shirt costs $20 (sizes S-XL) or $22 (sizes 2X or 3X) and includes the white shirt for your grade and the tie-dye, rubber bands, and bags that will be provided to everyone at our school-wide tie-dye event on Thursday, September 21st, during the school day! Freshmen will be provided red tie-dye, sophomores will be provided light gray tie-dye, juniors will be provided blue tie-dye, seniors will be provided red and blue tie-dye, and staff will get their pick of any tie-dye to use.
Shirts are now on sale until next Friday, the last day of the first week of school, September 1st. You can purchase them by logging into School Cash Online by going to https://www.schoolcashonline.com/. There, each shirt for each specific grade is already linked to the correct students in that grade. Sales are only open for a short time so don’t wait and get your shirt now! These shirts will be worn by the whole school at the Friday Homecoming Pep Rally on Friday, October 6th and other spirit days throughout the year so they are important to have to bond us as a #woottonstrong community.
Please let Mr. Schwartz (Keith_A_Schwartz@mcpsmd.org) know if you have any questions!
Student Class Schedules
Please note that this week Wootton had to make some necessary changes to the master schedule which may have affected your child(ren)’s schedule(s). On Monday August 28th your child(ren) should follow the schedule they see in Synergy. If there is an error your child can visit their counselor during the period of the error. Unfortunately, we cannot honor requests for specific teacher changes or changes in periods.
You may request a schedule change for one of the following reasons:
- The scheduled course(s) are incorrect from what was requested at the beginning of the school year. Your student's schedule is considered correct if an approved alternate class was used when the primary class could not be scheduled.
- The schedule is incomplete. For example, there is a missing class period (most students should have seven classes listed), or two courses are listed in the same period.
- Your student earned credit for a class this summer and no longer will take the course listed.
- Your student would like to reconsider the level of class that they initially requested. Please note that schedule changes for level reconsideration will only be made based on space availability.
As previously shared, your child should follow the schedule that appears on Monday, August 28, 2023, in Synergy.
Administrator and Counselor Assignments
Administrator assignments will shift going into the next school year. What is changing? Last year, administrators were assigned to grade levels. The Administrative Team met and determined we could offer more focused student support by shifting from grade-level assignments to alphabetical assignments. For most of you, the thing that you need to know is that administrators will have students at all grade levels, and students are assigned to an administrator by the first letter of their last name.
Please find the assignments below.
- Last Names A-F - Broe
- Last Names G-L - Gardner
- Last Names M-R - Labbe
- Last Names S-Z - Rohner

Picture Day, August 31 & September 1
We are so excited to photograph the students of Thomas S. Wootton High School!
We find that using your school website, Twitter, Instagram or sms texting can be highly effective in getting information to parents. Below is some sample verbiage you can use for your school website/social media and attached to this email is a shareable graphic. We find that letting parents know one week prior to photo day and then reminding them 48 hours before is a great timeline.
School Picture Day is coming Thursday August 31st & Friday September 1st 2023 . Pictures will be available approximately two weeks following our school's photo day. Save time and Pre-order online here: https://vando.imagequix.com/g1001030508#login
For questions about ordering please email underclass@vosphoto.com
