The World of Westwood Wolves
Choose Your Own Adventure!
April 18-22, 2022
From the principal's office...
Westwood parents-
Our 1st graders did a wonderful job in their first-ever musical program Thursday night! I was at another school event and had to miss it, but Mrs. Tompkins sent me video and reported the kids did awesome. Mr. Stewart is really working to move our music program forward, and we love seeing the fruits of his labor.
We have another first coming up- the first Westwood family night since I became the principal (since I started the year the COVID shutdown happened). We invite you to join us this Thursday, April 21st to play bingo for books, grab some free food, and try out some STEAM (science/technology/engineering/arts/math) activities. Grades K, 1, 2, 4, and 5 are invited to start at 5:30 while our 3rd graders get ready for their program; 3rd graders can participate in family night after their program is over.
We have yet another first happening- our resource teacher, Ms. Newton, is introducing Westwood to her dog Hazel. Hazel is a three year old, 43 pound Goldendoodle. She has had extensive training and met all requirements to be a therapy dog. She will be coming to school two days per week to visit classrooms, help with recess duty, have breakfast with students, etc. If you do not want your child interacting with Hazel, please contact the office. If your student has any allergies (Goldendoodles are hypoallergenic but just in case), please let us know. Hazel will always be supervised by adults when she is around children. We are so excited to have her join our Westwood family!
The school board voted last week to make some adjustments on the calendar/schedule for next year. School will not start on Monday, August 15. Also, next year, elementary students will be dismissed at 3:10 every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesdays only, students will be dismissed at 1:50. This will allow every teacher to have an extended time of collaboration and planning in order to reach our goal of high levels of learning for all (teachers and students). We will continue to have the Afterschool Program at Westwood, and it will begin at 1:50 on Wednesdays. We will be putting out something in the next few weeks to gather information about which students will need afterschool care on the early release Wednesdays.
Have a great week!
Love,
Mrs. Crumby (your proud principal)
